"Customer Protect" Wear and tear warranty - Speed Six
Discussion
My current car is up for sale and when it goes, I will be getting myself into a T350.
I went to TVR Barnet earlier this week and test drove a T350, it ticked enough boxes for me to change marques and I am very much looking forward to being an owner.
I was offered a "Customer Protect" "Gold" warranty by TVR Barnet because the car I was looking at qualified for it on the basis of it's age. I was told that the warranty covered all wear and tear (except the obvious like tyres, etc) and that it would even cover an engine rebuild. The cover extends to the value of the machine. I was also told that the booklet I was given discussed mechanical breakdown, but the cover extended to wear and tear as well.
On paper, this seems excellent and the gentleman I dealt with was helpful to a fault. I have no reason to doubt that the warranty is comprehensive, but the devil with these things, is in the detail.
I have looked through the booklet I was given which seems to indicate the company is caled "Customer Protect"
1. Does any have experience of this particular warranty?
2. What is the best, most comprehensive warranty available for a TVR?
3. What's the feedback on TVR Barnet?
Without wanting to stir up a hornets nest, better men than I have said that these cars do fail and chances are it will happen. I want to enjoy my ownership regardless and have any financial issues this causes with cover.
I am going in with my eyes open and am unlikely to whinge (as opposed to vent!) if something does go wrong, but this warranty is important. I am unlikely to enter into my first stint of TVR ownership without one.

I have never had one of these "warranty" co,s pay out, not on the Rangie or TVR. Result around 8k in total(ie, rangie not covered due to manufacturing defect). The only warranties worth anything are the manufacturers, just my opinion and iam sure there are great policies! If the dealer is confident, they will put their own warranty on it ?
As he says.... I have heard a lot of stories about these third party waranty companies....
Can you not do your own "Waranty"?.... Take the money (plus a little extra) that you would have paid this other company and stick it in a bank.... keep adding to it the money you would have spent on the real waranty... If the car fails, dig into the pot and use it... if it doesnt... you end up with a big pile of cash for the next car!

Generally I'm pretty negative about warranties, but in this case if the warranty is included in the price then I would go for it. Its about the best you can get.
My T350 had a complete clutch on this warranty. Also some rear suspension bushes - Henley TVR said they would not be covered "the warranty company has said no to this in the past". Took it to 'my' dealer who did them under the warranty with no quibbles. I think a lot of the success on claiming depends on the case the individual dealer presents and the effort they put in/their relationship with the warranty company. However, I am not sure how successful a full engine rebuild claim would be...

Perhaps these AA warranties are worth looking at then...
If you get the warranty in the price of the car then whats the gripe?I took out an AA warranty covering the last 8 months I owned my T350 (recently sold). Trouble is nothing went wrong for me to claim...
One thing to remember, you need a warranty 'your' dealer will be happy to 'work with'.

I had a top end engine rebuild by this warranty company back in '06 and only took 9 weeks to complete
I suspect things have tightened up considerably since then due to large payout's, in which case the good dealer's (Trimar included) will do their utmost best to compensate for any shortfall. Are you buying that cracking red T350?

Be careful of these so called warranties, I brought a Mercedes and the sales man was very polite and said you get a great warranty with this car called customer protect a gold and black book, any way i was really happy until my car developed a fault then the nightmare started, I contacted customer protect they told me to take it to Nationwide, took it there but they said they think its the injectors, but customer protect would not pay out until me the customer paid for the diagnostic which i did £94.00 told the garage they told me customer protect will not pay for the repairs because its wear and tear after 3 days of owning the car it was of the road, next the fuel sender stopped working again they said take it to Nationwide which I did they said its the fuel sender but again customer protect said they wanted a full diagnostic on the car first so there goes another £94.00 .
Be very very careful this customer protect and worse than the TAX man they rob and rip people of all the time stay clear of them

None, if it's worth the paper it's written on and if the cost (no such thing as a free warranty) is reasonable.I'd be asking how much they'll lop off the price for no warranty then look at investing the difference as tegwin suggested,
