I've just bought a new battery as the old one was shot. Until this time last year I used the car (V8S) as my regular transport, covering at least 200 miles a week, during which time the battery was fine, the car starting without issue. The car lived on the driveway.

Since then the car has been stored in the garage being used infrequently. I'd like to be able to ensure that the new battery is kept in the best condition during periods of non-use and prevent it running flat. At the moment the car turns over and starts perfectly, I'm just wondering how long it will be before I'm unable to turn it over as the battery has gone flat.

My Gunson battery charger does have a 'float' setting but I'm unsure as to when/how often I should be using the battery charger to keep the battery in the best condition ready for use. I did buy a solar powered charger (I used it on the old battery when it started to fail, but I think it only hastened its complete failure).

Does anyone have any advice on keeping a new battery topped up when the car is not in use.

not sure whether you can do this for an "S", however for the Griffith you can keep the battery in great condition using an Accumate ( http://www.accumate.co.uk/ ) connected through the cigarette lighter

when do you attach the Accumate? Do you always have it attached when the car is not in use? I thikn that my battery charger would perform the same function - it's just that I'm not sure when I should be connecting and running it. The instructions say that it will charge, and once charged just keep a charging a float charge.

I always attach the Accumate - when ever the Griff is parked up in the Garage.
