A good day out, 12 TVRs and 1 rather gorgeous GD (Lola rep) T70 Spyder hitting the rollers and the usual animated b*ll*x talking - boys will be boys and all... wink

Piccies:

The good news: Chimmie makes the same power as the best std 500s on these rollers. The bad news -that's still no more than 260ish...

260 seems about right for a 500 (max 280 in standard trim).
What did Jan's marvellous T70 do, should be around 600 bhp, isn't it?
And the T350?

Hi Gerjo,

The standard 500s were between 240-255 hp on Saturday, the latter figure being accepted as what a good 500 normally makes on this RR. I've seen one modified 5 litre (the blue ex-4 litre Chimmy IIRC) get somewhere in the 280 range, the red Griff with the ACT manifolds I don't know; the silver one with the headlight conversion, bigger airflow meter and carbon plenum had problems and stayed in Geldermalsen for investigation.

The first run of the T70 showed something in the 480 hp range; after that they did try a run without the air filters which looked to be a tad on the small side, but I don't think it made much difference. The T350 came pretty close to its quoted power figure at 335 or so.

My Chimmie is a rebuilt/upgraded 4.3 that hadn't been tested before, so 257 bhp/403 Nm is a good start I reckon. Will be back for some fettling as I didn't get a good air/fuel ratio reading, probably due to an exhaust manifold leak (showed on the graphs as being very very lean but the run itself was completely trouble free).

I was out with Transmitter Man Phil and his new 420 SEAC: last dyno read 275 rearwheel brake. That's with a slightly hotter cam than what the car came standard with. Very tidy runner with adequate popping and banging ability, silksmooth torque and the proper urge at over 4K. Revcounter was a bit off but I suspected a 1K idle, mudwrestling laydees stylee.

As I'm an engine whisperer I like to hop in with you for the first DSR bit Eric: deal?

Congrats on the figures, looked like a decent days out.

Goodwood is a gas BTW. A 5 hrs drive from R'dam I guess. Stuff for discussion wink

my red griff (standard engine) made; 268,5 bhp @ 4953rpm and 338lbs/460nm @ 3625rpm, very healthy numbers?!

5 years ago it made 274,4 bhp on the same dyno the man told me, with some ignition timing changes and with the new act exhaust manifolds there is still some improvement to be made?

the t350c made 330bhp if i'm right?

hi Eric,

Thanks for posting pics ! Nice day out indeed, my 2.9 S3 had still
165 of 168 HP left after 17 years. What I cannot believe is the
300Nm torque at 2200 RPM ??? It should have 233 Nm according factory figures.
I only have the car for 2 years and don't know the history but what could have been modified to increase the torque ?

Yes, yours was a ruddy great result, especially given that Speed Centre's rolling road readings are just about the most conservative in the Netherlands... (or must I say 'accurate' wink ).

About the torque - mine 'peaked' right at the beginning of the run, too, then stayed essentially flat until 3,750 or so and then gradually falling - typically you'd expect a TVR RV8 to have a torque curve that peaks at about 3,500-4,250 (depending on cam, porting etc.) or so. Don't know what's the deal with that really.

That's indeed a healthy and average result for a 500; torque of 338 lbs is very good, above average! (although it remains very tricky to compare results of different RR's).

Well above average for this particular RR I'd say; beforehand (while at the first cup of coffee/tea), 255-260 was being mooted - and casually agreed on - as a good result for a std 500 there, which was corroborated by the actual results. Going from that and given the ACT manifolds I'd say 268 would be about right for this car, too - I'd assume the circumstances would have been different on the former 274 hp run, and other cars were also getting higher numbers on that day??

It's a can of worms as always. wink

good morning gt tvr / 900t-r

very happy with the numbers, i know the car is in good shape for her age.
338lbs torque probably due to the act manifolds.
in 2003 the car was completely standard no act manifolds etc. so with better fuel and changed ignition timing speedcenter told me the 274bhp will be possible again (monday morning call) but what you said and the famous forest gump words; life is like.....

in the end without serious tuning you are talking about small numbers.

sound is also important and with the new manifolds i have more sunday morning tune!!

It'll be my pleasure - you'll probably know from former experience that the passenger footwell of a Chim is less than accommodating for tall people so provided you can live with that...

I was Andrews passenger all the way up to London 2 years ago wink I prefer top down motoring because of the drone inside . . . Let's make that a deal Eric.
