TVR for Valentines
Discussion
Hired a Cerbera for a Valentines supprise, good offer 24% off plus an extra day for nowt!
I've driven Chimera before and have just recently parted with my S2000.
However nothing prepared me more the 'experience' of the newer generation TVR's. Car was an early 4.2 Cerb.
To sum up my impressions of the cerbera.
INITIALLY.
Didn't like it much!
LOUD (add a V. to that)
Steering not to hot, inconsistent weighting and not very much 'feel'
Handling a bit floaty but comfortable, feels big and heavy.
Interior a huge inprovement over Chimera, had the 'feel' of my classic lotus elan inside (except the windscreen had been replaced by a letterbox), crossed with the noise, power, fear factor of my finaces '71 Chevy Nova, (400bhp, drum brakes, very similar to drive actually, had been converted to a 4 speed muncie, and tuned a 'little').
Brakes - hmmm, stopped me but steering wheel nearly shook out of my hands from 60+ warped disks maybe?
Final Impression
Might sound like I hate TVR's but by the end of the weekend the car had really grown on me, engine is amazingly responsive, sounds great. The reaction from other people is funny too everyone stop to look where that noiise is coming from! The popping and growling of the engine is very addictive.
Handling is still so-so but I could slide it around a bit by the 2nd day. Doesn't initally inspire you with confidence in its cornering ability tho'. To me it's like a great engine with the other bits kind of stuck on. Personally I wouldn't buy one now I've tried it.
My finace is another matter tho' she REALLY wants a 4.5
Summary - For me the cerbera's like a 70's british classic crossed with a US muscle car.

Brakes... they shouldn't do that! But if it's a car that's hired out, it's probably been thraped to within an inch of its life. It's probably worth driving a "proper" one to get a true assessment of it.
Say... at 4.5LW? Should please the fiancee...
