I thought I would try the new Flux TVRCC scheme as my modified Wedge insurance is due for renewal in a couple of weeks. To say I am unimpressed would be an understatement. Two other quotes, from Classicline (the incumbent) and Haggerty were very similar, at around £240. Flux was over £400.

Amongst the questions asked were:
400se - is that a Tasmin?
Does it have 2 or 4 seats?
Reinsurance - what's that? (Mrs. Number 7 is in the industry)

This contrasted sharply with Haggerty. Very competitive quote, optional track day cover, and the person I spoke to actually owns a TVR, and knew about the models. Guess where my money will be going?

my money this year is going to Mannings, because my griff is non standard, with an ajpv8 fitted and a few other non standard bits plus now being gaaraged, I decided to shop around and asked 4 companies for quotes, and Mannings came back to me within 48hrs, knew what I was on about and gave me a quote of £238, Aplan who I am currently insured with are still trying to work it out ( they aren`t keen on modified cars it seems) and Hagerty came back with £480 !!

Another vote for Mannings...mainly because they've always been professional, competetive and give good/easily obtainable agreed valuation policies.

Wasn't impressed with Flux at all. Their 'call back' system was automated-had me waiting so long that I was cut off on 2 occasions! When I phoned them direct and spoke to the guy, he wanted to charge me extra for upgraded (racing reds) suspension and brakes-all done when original parts had worn out. I regard these changes as safety upgrades and he saw them as 'mods' in the same way a boy racer would add spoilers and stickers.
Shopped around all the usual and went with Endsleigh. It cost £30 LESS by increasing annual milage from 5k to 6k. Thought that was odd though.

Hagerty 10/10 as well.

Lovely friendly helpful guys, even remembered my previous TVR and I haven't had one for 12 months.

I got a very good price which included 12 months breakdown cover and for the car to be on my drive.

Has anyone else noticed how little consistancy there is with insurance companies & the premiums they charge?

Prices seem to vary so dramatically not just from different companies but for different customers too. Ive never been able to pay less that £650 despite being well into my forties, living in a nice area & the car being in a secure garage at home. Others I know pay half my premium but their circumstances seem very similar to mine...I just dont get it.

I know several people who have gone to Flux & are very happy with the price & service...others (as stated on here) have not had such a good expreience.

Ive tried most of the names mentioned on here (& lots more)over the years with varying results, which has been made much more difficult since our accident in France which saw the Griff being written off.

Prior to the accident Hagerty couldnt help because I do too many miles, A Plan (who insured my BMW at the time) were no good as they dont offer track day cover, Mannings offered a price then moved the goal posts at the last minute so they went out the window too.

In the end I stayed with the broker I have been with for several years & have been very happy with. However, I cannot put into words my feelings about the insurance company they put my policy with...trying to sort the claim through them was a complete nightmare but I dont feel I can go into more detail on an open forum, but you know where I am if you want to know more.

This year Im in that terrible situation where I have to go to whoever will accept me but my premium is mahoosive...which is nicefrown & I would strongly advise you all to investigate your insurance company's claim payment history before you pass over your hard earnt cash....& get an agreed valuation.

Was your NCB not protected Nick? I claimed almost £30k from A Plan on a total loss a few months before your accident and my renewal from them on the Sag was no more than last year and only £50 more than I had originally paid them for the Tuscan.

I have never insured with Haggerty, essentially because they wouldn't cover for business use or the level of mileage that I wanted, but the guy I spoke to there was excellent, knowledgable and very helpful and would have got my business if they had been able to match my requirements.

Hagerty (Renewal) 420 SEAC

spoke to Phil said it was "nice car" easy to say but then went on to say he had seen a blue 450 at a recent PH meet

he gave me some options to reduce my premium:

420 SEAC garaged, 3000 miles pa, £250 excess, £18,000 agreed value - for a measely £155 - I almost feel guilty

and none of that an extra £10 nonsense for agreed value from Flux

Phil is a top bloke thumbup

Agreed value nice and simple with them, just email a few pccies of the motor and you're done.

Always a pleasure talking to Hagerty and sorting out any policies, it's never a hassle and always a pleasure.

Think I was on the phone for ages with Phil as we got gassing about something totally off topic biggrin

It's not that Hag will not cover business use, they do not cover commuting of any kind, even to single place of work. This ruled them out for me as on sunny days the run to my office is great Tiv territory. They are a bit cagey about it when you ask too, which put me right off. They don't mention it unless you ask, and then they say it would be OK sometimes, well rarely, possibly, perhaps. If they don't cover it, they should be up-front about it. Ambiguity and insurance don't mix.

they've always been upfront with me and they always ask what my daily drive is as they only insure cars on a classic car policy and not for daily drives or commuting.

I'm not sure if this one stil stands, but it used to be that if you have insurance with Hagerty, you are insured to drive any other car with a policy with Hagerty. I may be wrong though on that one though.

Guess it depends what you're looking for though, if you want the car for a commute then you will need to look else where than Hagerty for insurance.

Very pleased to insure our Griff with Hagerty who were really nice to deal with, very competative on price and agreed value was also realistic. Also recently added our GTI to the same policy for an incredibly small sum

Big thumbs up for Hagerty thenthumbup

I didnt get too bad a price for the Chimera with Flux. However their excess was stupidly high. If i had a crash i would end up paying for it myself basically, annoys me no end when insurance companys do that. Went with MSM in the end, and so far im happy.

Seeing their advert here http://www.sc-power.co.uk/ seems a bit strange they don't like modified cars.

Blimey, that's great value. Assume its limited somehow? Mine is around £340 (but with agreed value) and Andreas £500 (unlimited mileage + business use) both with Manning.
