Roads to drive your TVR on...
Discussion
Aahhhh. Lovely to read those threads detailing roof down action over the last weekend. Roll on Spring.
With one eye on the year ahead, can anyone suggest a website or book dealing with great roads to drive on in the UK? Whether scenic (Snake Pass
) or otherwise, has anyone got any favourite stretches of tarmac they'd like to tell us about?
I live in Souf East Landan but get around a bit (as it were) in my Silver Chimp so to hear about roads anywhere across the UK would be great...
Cheers!

There's a roads section here on PH!
Yeah, you should check out the roads section in gassing. I went out for a blast yesterday, and traversed Snake Pass and Woodhead pass, in the rain, loads of slow lorries, no overtaking spots worthy of the name. Marvellous!! Great bit of road down the far side of the valley from Glossop to the Woodhead pass road. I'll repeat the journey when it's dry, and the brakes on the Tamora have lost their glaze. Right now that's the thing that limits speed!
OK. It's not a fast road, but it has to be arguably one of the most scenic roads in Britain. The B3247 from Cremyll near Torpoint in Cornwall to Seaton. Particularly the area above Cawsand, there is a tiny road that you can take to get above the village which gives you a spectacular view across Plymouth sound and the breakwater. Heading towards Portwrinkle, the views are the Cornish equivalent of Amalfi in Italy. It is a must do run on a hot sunny day with the roof down. Ice creams are pretty good at the beach cafe in Seaton as well! This is one of my favorite runs, so if you see a red S2, it's probably me!

nubbin - next time you are out that way..
try the A6024 from Glossop over to Holmfirth - steep road, loads of fun, but watch that drop on the left - aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........
there are some great roads south of Hexham - the B6306 south and onto the B6278 over Bollihope common is a blast - and that was in a Mazda 323 1.5 - oh to be leaving Hexham Horseless Carriages in a Tuscan taking it home to York.
The unclassified road just west of it between Daddry Shield and Newbiggin is more or less guaranteed traffic free - but there are a few gates on it, so don't boil the brakes!
Now then, where's this roads section?

Ah, yes, it's more or less a continuation of the road out of Glossop, down the valley side, a few hundred yards on the A627, then up the A6024. Must try that one in summer!! Cheers!!
There's also a nice triangle of roads, going down the A57, turn off down past Clumber Park, (don't know the road number), and it's a fast sweeping open road - a real blast on a hot day (or any day!). Then turn right at the little double roundabout, head up another fast open road, lovely forests on either side, into Warsop, turn right again, and blast it up past Welbeck College and back to the A57. Magic!!

I still can't get onto the roads section. Asks for my name, user name and domain - what is a domain? Left it blank, tried 3 times, came up with the map of the UK, then you click on an area, same request for info X3 and then the strange error message someone else mentioned on this/a similar thread. Am I just being thick?
A54 from Congleton (just East of the M6 junction 17) heading out through the Peak District. One of the best roads I've ever driven
. I even managed to get some air in my old Merc Estate while driving from Oulton Park to Lincoln to pick up some urgently needed parts for the race car.
The other great road is the A9 up the East coast of Scotland from Golspie to Wick. Fantastic road. Excellent TVR road. Actually, an excellent road in any car, as I only did it in a Vauxhall Vectra Turbo Tiesel Estate loaded up with gear, but it was still a hoot
