"How may times has it broken down" ?

People always ask "How many times has it broken down".
I've owner TVRs for 4 years now and have only suffered one break down requiring recovery. I could not engage the gears, this was a quick and inexpensive fix.
Had mine just over a year and sounds like I had the same problem as you.I've owner TVRs for 4 years now and have only suffered one break down requiring recovery. I could not engage the gears, this was a quick and inexpensive fix.
Nearly a year of perfect reliability - but suddenly two in quick succession.
1. drivebelt snapped - hardly a TVR-specific problem.
2. 100amp fuse outage (at least that's what I and the AA think - got a nice cable running from alternator to battery via the window at the minute!). Maybe some blame on TVR for this one (electrical load etc?) - don't really know enough about it.
Neither exactly major anyway. Long may it remain that way!

2 TVR's, 3 years total (and counting), and not once (touches wood).
Far better than the BMW....
Far better than the BMW....

The most reliable car I've ever owned (no issues in three years) was a kit car. The worst was a very ordinary BMW saloon.
Not for a minute slating BMWs, but it shows how misleading stereotypes can be.
Enough that I have stopped defending it as a reliable vehicle, but in fairness it never broke in my first stint as owner, and the guy who owned it in the middle 8 years did next to nothing in terms of service/maintenance. So I guess it isn't breaking it is just highlighting areas that need attention. Hopefully, those are nearly all out of the way now. The car cost 8k to buy back, and so far has cost 5k to repair.
Yet I'm still thinking about a second TVR for the days when two seats simply aren't enough.

Only once in three & half years - unfortunately on a Bank Holiday Sunday in France with 3 items on one day !
Blown 100 amp fuse (spare in boot - couldn't access doh)
Snapped accelerator cable (not TVR related)
Loose wire on the fuel pump (camping in field - my fault)
All fixed relatively quickly no interuptions to holiday

In four years of driving I had some minor problems; a few blown fuses, rocker gasket, starter and a radiator reconditioned.
Luckily I've only been left on the road side once and that was on a very wet and misty day on the South coast with moisture in the distributor cap. I'd never experienced that before and it hadn't occured to me that it might be the cause. Recovery guy sorted it at the road side and told me I was the fouth person that day with the same problem. So, like others.... not exactly a TVR specific break down.

I've had the S for 12 years now and (touch wood) its not let me down yet. The only embarassing time was after a run with the TVRCC (about 150 miles or so) parked on the drive and when I went to put it away it didn't want to go and coughed and f*rted its way into the garage. The following day it would n't go at all; after much checking of electrics and suggestions from helpful friend to get some more petrol in case and my denials as the pump wirred and then stopped and the gauge showed 1/4 full so must be some in the tank - eventually in desparation got a gallon and away it went!! Much red face and amusement in the pub for weeks after!
Anyway the sender unit was taken out and adjusted (ie the bit of wire with the float on was bent a bit).

I was presenting to a bunch of M-Benz dealers a couple of years ago on how to improve their service and the brand. Positionned M-Bs against various other cars we've owned for reliability. They found it very hard to get their rather embarassed heads around the fact that my TVR was more reliable than the German cars that we'd owned.
