temperature gauge
Discussion
Just now after a 100 mile trip in our Griff 500 (roof off happy to report) the temperature gauge dropped from its usual 90 to 50, stayed there for a few minutes, then dropped to minimum. Car A OK. What can I check ? Just looked in shpub's book but no luck there.

ps en route stopped for a swift half off A34, saw a top Tuscan outside West Ilsley - no. plate something like 'whoopee'. Smart!

My 99 griff 500 did just the same, traced it to the temp sender.Needed replacing.I used the spare sender that is on the top, not at the front. Using this allowed me to calibrate the temp guage. Now when it shows 90 it is 90. Oh if you are thinking how, i have a posh thermo digimeter so with a variable resistor i have set up the guage. It may not be totally linear, but at least i know where 90 is.

It's more likely to be a wiring problem than a failed temp sensor, and it's quit likely the fault is right by the sensor. So it's worth you finding the sensor and checking the wires and connections are sound. (The sensor is usually pretty easy to spot on the top/front of the inlet manifold.)
