Sheer bliss!

Drove to work yesterday morning, as I often do when I have to be in early - no traffic at 6:30 ! Left work at 21:00 with no one waiting for me at home, so I decided to go for a spin around town. It was just chilly but not cold, I mean warm enough to take the roof off and drive around London catching all the good sights. Sheer bliss, the V8 roar echoing onto the massive walls of these ancient buildings, wrapped in the night lights. Drove around for an hour... St Paul, the Strand, Fleet Street, Bank, Liverpool Street, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Mayfair, Regent's Park. Ended up a bit low on petrol so pushed all the way up to Sterling Corner (Barnet) to feed some Optimax to the beast.

Came home completely relaxed.

I warmly recommend driving around town at night with roof off

Yours,

Roms

Hhhhmmmn, got to go up to Gloucester Rd this evening for a meal, was going to get a cab, but roof down avoiding booze and cab may just be the way forward.

Top idea Roms!

I know what you mean. One of my favourite occupations on the rare occasion that I am up early on a Sunday morning is to do the west end and city. I'm not confident enough in the Cerby yet, but I've had a bobby nearly walk into a wall as he watched me stepping the back of the Caterham out going from Hyde Park Corner down Birdcage Walk. Great fun

Is there still that sign at Hyde Park Corner that tells you what speed you are doing and to SLOW DOWN?

A number of people I have met in the past used to see if they could get that thing to go off the scale. That and record speed when driving inside the Eurostar thing.

I've not seen a speed indicator there. My God....how much fun could be had with that. I'd have to set up a standing order to pay the fines

Yeah I remember this one... Not sure it is still there though. What know is that there is a gatso check the northbound traffic, just before the traffic light half up Park Lane. Shame that's one of the best bit of tarmac in London... smooth and straight !

Its annoying isnt it, its the same along the embankment, just adjacent to St James', lovely bit of road, open, good visibility and wide, and the b*ggers have stuck a tax camera there.

Agreed, well driving anywhere in fact. We can back from friends at about 2am last August roof down around the M25 then through Redhill and down through the Sussex countryside to home. Being out in the country at 2-3am on your own is so cool. Not so cool being stopped by a copper in Redhill suggesting I may have stolen the car.
I did point out to him how many car theives do you see driving through a town at 2am at 30mph with the roof down wearing a tuxedo?
He then went on to ask if the car was made of fibreglass, how big the engine was etc. etc. etc. WPC didn't look too impressed!

Must have been a London from a parallel universe last night ... I admit I was not 'up west', but left Richmond at 8'ish to drive home along the M3 and it was pi55ing it down. The car was slithering all over the place despite me being EXTRA light on the loud peddle! Ho Hummm ... still nice today (so far) so the roof will be off later!

On Blackfriars Bridge at 21:00, I could see plenty of sky and a few clouds reflecting the orange glow of the city.
Now that you mention it, I was surprised to see the A1 was wet towards Stirling Corner

I can vouch for the rain in Maidenhead last night. I was standing next to my 350i on the A404 with no clutch and all it was, was crap in the clutch fluid. Mind you the drive there and the night before was SUPERB! Night time, V8 sound and LOTS! off looks!
