Electric Power Steering Upgrade
Discussion
Has anyone out there had the Racing Green power steering upgrade on their car? I'm very tempted as the un-assissted set up on my Griffith would be easier if I had a friend to help. However, having spoken to the garage they didn't have anything that I could test. It sounds good but does it work well in practice?

I had a little play with their prototype one, just inside the garage, and it seemed very good. Sprint magazine did a write up of it (might have been Derek Smith?). IIRC he is not a fan of PAS, and was quite cynical before testing it. He then gave it a very glowing report
Given the hassle of sorting all of the parts, installing pipes, reservoirs, steering rack, and modifying other bits - i reckon it it good value.
Fortunately, mine has PAS as standard.

Cynical is a bit harsh I feel. It's fair to say I'm not a fan of PAS but I've got to admit that as such systems go, the electronic one was very good. It didn't overpower the feel, at least at anything over 50, which is what so many do. I loved everything abou my E-Class Merc but the steering.Sprint magazine did a write up of it (might have been Derek Smith?). IIRC he is not a fan of PAS, and was quite cynical before testing it. I think the best PAS I've ever driven is in the T-cars, especially the Tamora. I really liked that. I wouldn't put Racing Green's on level with that but then I wouldn't put any other one there either.
I like a bit of resistance in my steering but I feel I could be convinced that it would be worth going for RG's electronic one. It did suprise me with just how it fitted my driving: there in abundance when going at slow speed, but not apparant once the speedo's winding up. One of the advantages is that you would have a bigger choice of tyres on the front. I like a little understear, I find it reassuring, but I feel certain that if I'd been a few years younger, I'd want it more neutral.
My suggestion is to give it a go.
Is that a full hydraulic system or just an electric addon?
There was a company at one of the car shows who offered an electric unit that fitted between the steerring column and the rack somewhere under the dashboard.
It sensed how fast the car was going and how much effort you were trying to put in, and helped accordingly.
THe two demo cars he had it fitted to were a Morgan +8 and some other random classic... both installs where very impressive!

Yeah, it's an electric jobby. Light at lower speeds then bleeding away as the speed builds. Should make town work less of a workout! There was a company at one of the car shows who offered an electric unit that fitted between the steerring column and the rack somewhere under the dashboard.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but has anyone now tried/gone for installing this?I have neither tried nor gone for the upgrade yet but I have seen an example of one part installed. It's from a Nissan Micra apparently and looks like it should be quite a tidy install. I've asked Racing Green to let me know when/if they have a car I can try. Can't bring myself to spend 2k without a test. If I get a test I'll post my thoughts for what they're worth!
