According to the big man himself 'Al Melling', only echoing what we already know that TVR is unlikely (never) to build another car.

So what’s the alternative for style and performance? This recession has created a very affordable Astons

My personal preference would be for a C6 Corvette but LHD would still bug me.
I agree on the V8 vantage but it's not all that quick and I love the outrageous styling of modern TVRs.

You mean you are not considering Sideshow Als "Melling Pussycat" or whatever it is that he calls it?

Assuming we are talking about new or nearly new cars here as clearly anyone looking for a second hand sport car on this forum would buy another TVR biggrin

Lotus are about the only mainstream manufacturer producing lightweight GRP sports cars at the moment. Last time i checeked thoughb they didn't have a proper soft top. There are plenty of 'ordinary' sports cars for the £40-£50k mark but none that i would buy.

I would need to see Big Al's Griff creation to know whether it was any good or not. Reading his PH article he does come accross as someone who knows his onions though and at that price and with the hp numbers he has quoted i don't see much getting close to its performance in that price bracket. Then again your still buying a handmade low volume car and with £40k you could buy the fastest most brutal cobra replica. Depends what rings your bell....

I sat in one of these at the Canary Wharf Motor Expo a couple of years ago, and was very impressed. I asked about RHD conversions and the saleschappy on the stand said they could do them. smile But it would be about £15K. frown

Can't recall who it was, though. Sorry.

Ginetta G50 ?

We'll ignore the comedy concept of the electric one for now !

OK, so the roof doesn't come off, but still Britsh and hand-built etc and has a certain TVR-ish-ness. £45k or so it says on the 2nd link.

How about a second hand TVR?

Intend to reserve my judgement on the Melling Hellcat. It looks a lot like a Griff in the flesh and all this talk of live rear axles and so on sounds a retrograde step, rather than a 21st century interpretation.

The Corvette is the right sort of price and the right sort of approach, but it is a bit American. I love the Ginetta G50, but it seems to be a bit more of a track car - a little more scientific and a little less brutal than TVRs of old.

Perhaps some of the hairier AMG roadsters are the closest in character? Can't think of any British alternatives really - things like the Farbio and the various Loti are fantastic cars, but mid-engined precision just isn't very TVR.

Wisman (or how ever its spelt), Noble, Exige, NSX, Viper or Corvett would be my alternatives althought the Wisman would be well out of my price range frown

Oh yeah - forgot about that. I think the Wisemann is one of the greatest British sports cars ever built if you get my drift. Always liked them and I encountered a few at the ring last year which only further wetted my appetitie.

I don't understand this post!

My TVR is 40 years old this year. i may buy a younger TVR at some stage. just because cars aren't made anymore why would anyone want to look elsewhere.

There isn't another alternative to a TVR, just another TVR.

My other half has this:

OK, its not convertible, but it is much easier to get in and out of than the elise/exige and is so much more practical. It does need the suspension and power upgrades that LoopyLea has done to make it a real beast though smile

I love the thing and would definitely consider it a TVR alternative that handles VERY well too!!

I was going to replace my Cerbera with a Corvette.I bought the Vette, but i couldnt part with the Cerb.I couldnt part with the Vette either....hehe.Its been a brilliant car,and i cant fault it at all.Bullet proof, and loads of power on tap when you push the pedal in to the carpet.I have even hit 191mph in it.16mph faster than the official top speed. When i replace this one.It will be with another............Corvette.
