Please help im having a huge dilema.....

Having owned a chimera before i loved the V8 and the in gear power, soft top and looks of of the car....although it was bloody unreliable

I have always fancied an M3 but i wonder if i will get bored of it after a couple of months - having just come from a lotus elise.

I'd love to go for a tamora but to be honest i st scared of the speed 6 engine going pop on me........the BMW has lots of appeal in terms of reliablity but i cant make up my mind.......Help!!!!!

Why not go and test drive a couple of both.

The Tamora is not an unreliable car and I know a few who do use them everyday and they have been fine.

Think you'll find most on the TVR forum would go for the Tamora, those on M Power the BWM and in general, who knows.

Just go with your gut instinct and enjoy whichever you choose.

I had an E46 330ci sport until a few months ago, i was looking at changing it for either an M3, a 911 (996) or a Tuscan. I went for the tuscan after i decided i would get bored of the M3, to much the same as the 330 for alot more money, and the 996 was boring. + the BM was one of the worst cars i have owned. Im glad with my choice as it makes me grin every time i look at it, however If i was doing alot of miles i doubt i would have concidered the TVR

I went and looked at an M3 before my Tuscan - very nice, very sensible.

Next went to look at a Tuscan - it was the first time I had seen one in teh flesh and I was genuinely tingling with excitment. When I started the engine I was sold.

You just don't get that out of a BMW.

TVR is a hobby not just a form of transport! I have had sensible running costs but that because I learn, look about and put effort in. If you just take it to a dealer and say 'fix it' it will cost-a-lotta!

Sold my E46 M3 to get a T350, Only had the M3 for a couple of months, I found it very ordinary, and so it had to go.

Q) How many M3's on the road compared to tamora's

A)loads

great car but pretty common and not in the same league as a TVR IMHO

The Tamora is Awesome! and will turn heads drive one and you won't look back

Do you want to be part of a crowd, or stand out from the crowd? For me, the M3 is a reps' wannabe car and nothing else. [can't see what the fuss is about on the performance front either, drove one, waited for something to happen, it didn't] I suppose it's what you will be using it for. If everyday runabout kinda thing, then maybe it's for you. If not? there is no question to answer. Good luck anyway.

TVR Tamora forever!!!

Even if it's obviuous that there's no chance to compare BMW's reliability with TVR's one. Even for comfort and security devices. But maybe as a TVR is truly a wild car, this is exactely the special taste of a true sport car which can give you unique emotions!

Get both. BM for long trips with the family, when it is snowing, freezing cold, etc. Tiv for the summer hoons and the track. Works for me.

Seriously, very different cars. You need to decide what you really want. Go on, you know you really want TVR.

I note the reference to a 996 as well. Having driven all I acknowledge the amazing capability of all three cars however from my point of view I found the 996 and M3 dull in comparison to the TVR (previously a 350 SE now Tamora) as they were perfectly capable but....lacked the personality of the TVR.

For some that is what they want, for me I get that with the family car and want something else from the toy car.

Having had a Chimp in the past you may find the M3 "experience" similar to mine.
I was given a 6 month old M3 Cab loan car when a numpty pronged my Griff, and I can honestly say that it was possibly the worst experience of a "performance" car I have ever had...It was gutless in comparison to my 500 and it had horrendous scuttle shake, to the extent that the front wheel would lift off the ground when cresting the crown of the road.
Oh and as for reliability...it broke down twice, the power hood failed and the exhaust cracked all in the space of 12 weeks frown.
But, if you're not a hooligan and want practical every day car then is as good as any i spose. smile

Rolley eyes is a bit harsh for spelling guys!

The two cars are like chalk and dynamite. The M3 is more a GT compared to the Tam, being half as heavy again.

If you want to drive the length of the country in perfect comfort, chatting to your passengers and arriving fresh as a daisy then the M3 is great but it's very uninvolving compared to the Tamora.

For me it would be the Tamora every time but, and it's a big but it's not a car you drive and forget. I think you must enjoy having a little tinker from time to time keeping it nice and sorting out its little 'personality traits'

If it's you're only car i do believe you're either an M3 or Tamora kinda person if you catch my drift.

I dont agree, upto a couple of hours in my BM (330 but same seats as M3) was fine but much over this and it was not that good, i used to get back ache, bk ache the lot. Im fine in the tuscan so i think its down to personal preference, the MRS used to moan about the BM not for not being comfy on long trip, saying that she wont even go in the tuscan.

Guys thanks for all the comments..............to keep a well balanced opion i also posted the same question on the general gassing and also the TVR section for those of you that would like to read heres the link - I thought i would get loads of TVR owners slating the M3 and vise versa but in actual fact i think both cars deserve equal respect they re both worthy beasts. I think i have made my mind up that an M3 is the way foward if i want it to start in the morning..........

I won't bother to read the general gassing thread....no doubt loads of people knocking tivs, who've neither owned nor driven one rolleyes

I have Tiv and Beemer, both perfectly suited to their different roles, so no axe to grind. smile
