OK Guys here's the deal.
We see so many post from people saying TVR's are unreliable and rubish etc. I propose we just add a post to this thread every time we go out and all is well.
No great text needed, lets call it a counter. We can track sucessful journey's by counting the posts since the thread start date.

What do you think?

Mine's completed every journey without breaking down for the past 5.5 years. What's the issue here?

Mines completed every jounrney over the last two years and let me down once and that was due to the rotor arm (Lucas part btw) shattering. Not bad when you considered its taken to within an inch of its life every time .

Fish has had 8 months and nearly 10,000 trouble free miles from a T350C so far, and from what I can remember he had 18 months practically trouble free motoring from his Tuscan, i.e the only time it broke down whilst out on the road was when the throttle cable snapped.

My 2 TVR's have been appalling ..... total waste of money .... the last 80,000 miles in 3yrs and several trackdays have been both trouble, tedious and generally a total loss.

In fact this week I have wheeled the ol' girl out to see whether it would get me to work and back, amazingly it has achieved this simple task 3 times this week already !!!!! I even ventured round the M25 in it last night and it made it ....

I loathe driving it, servicing has meant I do nothing else in life just so I can afford it. I've stopped eating so that I can afford Mobil 1 for it ...

My 1st TVR cost me £7000 (£33,000 short, apparently)..... I used it everyday for nearly 3yrs and I hated it, every second of it. The 55,000+ miles I did were a gut wrenching mix of anxiety and nerves, just waiting for it to blow up in a ball of steam and smoke .... The new one is no better (I have started to go grey) ...

I think my utter madness must be heriditory as my Dad used to have TVR's but recovered after significant persuasion at the time .... but sadly with age he has relapsed and bought a 4.5 Chimaera, nearer to the £40,000 mark .... must be senility...

My fate must be sealed to be a miserable TVR owner for many more years and continue the tragic cycle of loss of money (& hair), continuing stress, anxiety mixed with the not knowing whether I can ever accomplish the journey I set out upon.

Maybe I should stop driving it completely, try and 'sort my head out' and only drive my Polo......

I've even that when driving the TVR I have been caught smiling, which must be confirmation of my ever diminishing grip on the reality of my situation .... I realised this was getting serious, so last night I drove 150 miles to a special support group.

This special support group meets twice a month. I hadn't been for several months as I have moved from the area, but having used the car this week and caught myself smiling again I felt there was no choice and I went to see my friends at the Mid Kent TVR Car Club meeting at Hollingbourne ...

They welcomed me with open arms into the warm pub and held me for several hours until I had regained my total composure and on the drive I realised ........I am not mad ! Just far too enthusiastic.

I have committed (not been committed) to keeping the ol' girl and seeing whether we can work to gether on achieving journey's together. I will take small steps at first, doing journey's to work occasionally through the winter, and then when the weather warms up I will start to travel with other TVR owner's who understand my problem and will support me through (France and mainland Europe as well as ....) my continuing enthusiasm......

Each grin represents an enjoyable trouble free drive.
Did have little trouble before so what??, is this the face of concern?? I don't think so!

Represents enjoyable drive in passenger seat, only trouble there twas in the wrong side, but fair do's better half enjoy's the car as much as me.

Regret ownership?? NO! NO! NO!

My record is:

3 TVRs in 6.5 years.

Breakdown record: 1 (flat battery).

I can live with that!

Last Saturday mine got out of the garage, washed and put back in and I didn't have to top up the oil once!

Mind you it did use about 10 gallons of water.

yep, on your recommendation Anyd has got her for a while. Not strictly true about the bought in parts actually mate. Number of issues, some TVR, some from other manufacturers.

So far the chim has lived up to the TVR reliability reputation. However, so could any marque. I owned the S3 for some time with no major issues aside from a coil feed wire preventing me from getting to work on one occasion. Not bad as I was using a 13 year old "allegedly" unreliable TVR as my only car through all seasons, and including trips to le mans etc. And as you will vouch for Harry (and those who attended Pistonfest ), whilst it was always warmed up properly etc, it was given a bloody good work out at times

Current record:

1 TVR for 2 1/2 years

2 breakdowns - one was the ECU (expensive) second was failed clutch slave cylinder (v cheap)

16,000 miles and 1 track day

All in all its currently the cheapest car per mile of my current fleet to run and service. Nothing has gone wrong (other than two breakdowns) and no expensive parts need replacing. Ok, so it needs a little tidy up - but thats cosmetics....

Unreliable? Pah...

Mine has been the most reliable car I have had.

28+k miles in 2years. Nothing really gone wrong. I dont count - immobiliser relays stopping it starting when hot - the particular ones were by-past at first service Raven (Castlesport) and a be putting on a dud battery (only to be replaced with a correct new one).

V.Very reliable and Alot of fun - I will miss it - going on Sunday.

I completed two journeys in it this week of 200 miles each. The Mrs drives it every day to work and has done so for four years now!

So thats 260 * 5 = 1300 journeys so far with one where it broke down.

1299:1 Reliability at worst (we've done more journeys than that). Considering its made of chocolate by men with hammers in Blackpool that's not bad at all, eh?

Hope this is not tempting fate by posting this:

8,0000 miles since January including a 2K mile two week trip to Europe.

Not one problem - except i keep having to stop to fill her up with petrol

Mine's an S3 so at the other end of the scale - it's 12 years old, cheap to buy, v cheap to insure, NEVER has broken down yet, pops bangs and makes me roar every time I go out, goes like a bat out of hell, yet can return 30mpg when commuting, been to Lake District & Cornwall on consecutive weeks without a hint of trouble.

It has a better reliability record than the runabout SAAB 9000, and costs less to run too!

[]

People trolling about unreliability of TVRs is starting to bore me

The S6 engine is new and has had teething problems, but it kicks out 100bhp per litre FFS! (My Ford V6 lump manages about 60). I hear the problems are pretty much sorted now and those that can only afford half a supercar can get a whole one.

BTW - ask Ferrari, Aston et al owners and you'll find they are delicate cars that spend as much time in the garage as out!

It is a real shame that the old image from days when TVRs were little more than kit cars and lacking in resources, has been linked for no good reason to some development problems of a new product, thus wrongly concluding that TVRs have always been and remain unreliable.

TVRs rock, trolls suck!
