Yesterday as I was waiting at traffic lights to go onto the M4, a guy dressed in workman cloths (i.e iluminous jacket, steel toe caps, etc..) tapped on the window of the car(Jag S-type) in front bandishing a petrol can, and manged to persuade the guy driving to let him in. They then perceeded to go 30 miles down the M4 past a couple of junctions before stopping at one of the motorway services. The guy couldn't of actually wanted petrol as he was under a mile from a petrol station when he was picked up!!! Obviously he had been waiting to pounce on someone on their own, to ensure guaranteed success of his onward journey.

This is the second time I have seen someone impersonate a motorway workman to gain access to an unsuspecting drivers car. Certianly won't be picking up anyone like that in the future how ever plausible their story.

Has anyone else ever seen of been victim to this sort of thing?

There was a story in the news today:

A motorist had his car stolen during a robbery on the hard shoulder of a Liverpool motorway, police have said.

The 34-year-old was travelling along the M62 from Liverpool to Huyton when the car behind him flashed its lights.

Thinking it was a police car the man pulled over, but two men got out of the other vehicle and attacked him before driving off in his red Ford Probe

I would just like to know how easy is it to identify unmarked cop cars as I've never been pulled up yet and I'm unsure just who has the right to do so.

So, they are looking for two mentally retarded car theives, how else could they explain going to that much risk for a Ford Probe?

I have to admit I do impersonate "Bin Men" sometimes, just so I can go around collecting rubbish

They'll have blue strobe lights behind the grille. They'll be wearing luminous yellow jackets with police written on them.

If in doubt, wait in the car, with the engine off and handbrake on, and they'll come to you. They should show you ID, and be willing to follow/escort you to the nearest police station for safety.

They'll have blue strobe lights behind the grille. And a souped-up engine.
They'll be wearing steel toe-capped boots with bits of gristle and blood on them.

If in doubt, nail it, spinning the wheels if you can, and they'll come to you. They should breathalyse you, and be willing to help you fall down the nearest police station steps for good measure.

Surely The Bill is only a TV show...?
