Question :

Quite a bit of the black paint has gone out of the front and rear badges one the Griff.

Rather that getting new ones / getting these refurbished has anyone tried painting the black back in themselves (whilst in situe) and if so what paint did you use / did it stay on ? Did it look ok or a bit naff ?

Any help would be appreciated.

I just changed the badges on my Cerb. Both the original badges had been poorly laminated with clear resin. This had gone yellow and started to peel away. I changed the back one for a new one but refurbished an old badge for the front. The badge was in good condition but the black lines needed repainting. I repainted the lines with badge off the car but you should be able to do it with it on.

For the paint I used an acrylic water based matt black model paint (Citadel Colour from Games Workshop). I watered it down so it ran into the logo. It took a few coats to get a good solid black. When just dry I rubbed off any over paint from the silver areas with a cloth then used a soft pencil eraser rubbed into the lines to neaten the edges. Looked like new when finished. Can't tell you how well it will last as I only did it two weeks back.

Hope this helps
Tony

Black Marker pen, does the trick for about 6 months depending on my polishing zeal.

Thanks for all of that..

How do I take the badge off? Are they just stuck on or is there a bolt through the back. Do you take them off with a knife I take it.

What glue do you use to get them back on ??

I did mine with some colour touchup pens from Halfords, then covered the whole lot in the same clear lacquer.

If it's an original badge it will be bolted on but you will need to be careful as the pegs can be quite fragile and it will probably be stuck.

I have seen some Tiv's with Union Jack coloured badges. Anyone know where they can be bought?

I've seen these on ebay. Per comments above, I recommend the leven badges - they're done on a swap basis as Jules uses your old badge to make the next one. /Mark

Ahh good to hear that stuff works! I have a draw full of it back from my college years and have been toying on the idea of sorting my front TVR badge out on the tuscan as its all peeling off.

Quick question, how are the badges held on? Can they be removed?
