Arse.. !

just when you think life is sorted out..

So I'm happily looking after a small UK company as a part of a European Group, looking after about 25 staff and project managing development work as I go. All is well.. 3 years in the company and a promotion behind me so I've managed to upgrade cars to the Chimaera and the builders are arriving next week to build an extension on our little two bedroom cottage so we can have some space for a dining room (and nippers perhaps! ). Aah.... the bliss of some financial security and a real sense of getting on in the world.

So what happens.. a bloody Group merger.. ! now I am told that by Q1 next year all my skills will no longer be required in Cheltenham, but may be required in the new sales office in the Square Mile, London ..bugger !

Well I'm not about to try and tackle the London housing market, leave my mates, the area I know and the house we've been renovating for the last two years on a "may be required".. so I've now got to find a new job.

Better still.. Theres no way I'm going to be able to get the same salary again as the IT industry has had a bit of a re-shape since I last moved around in it so assuming a worst case scenario it looks like I'm going to have to sell the Chimaera to find the extra cash to pay the builders for the extension. ..bugger ..bugger ..bugger.

Aah well.. it'll soon be Christmas eh..

Cheers,
Matt.

Sorry to hear the bad news Matt. Trying to find a bright side, at least you've got a bit of time to try and find something new.

Judging by our current hiring requirements here, I think that things are starting to look brighter again now, so hopefully you won't have to look for too long.

Hope it all works out.

Not that it's any consolation Matt but I have recently joined the ranks of the salary deficient. Had to go to the job centre last Friday how humiliating is that!! I felt like going round and telling everyone in there that I wasn't actually a scrote, I just needed them to sign a bit of paper for the morgage insurance

Timing as ever is perfect... ETA for Dan jnr. is the end of Jan

:goesbacktotearinghairout:

PS Things will have to get pretty bad before the Griff goes.

Thanks for the comments guys.. its a sign of the times I suppose... still as Richard said, at least I've got some time to get things sorted, which also fortunately means I won't have to give the TVR away in a fit of desparation.

Cheers,
Matt.

As someone who's got a Chimaera and has just got the plans drawn up for his house extension I really didn't want to hear that

Sorry to hear that Matt,

I found myself out of work for 6 Months after 9/11 and found myself needing to sell one of our two cars, I am happy to say I chose to sell the Puma. Managed to convince the missus that that was the sensible thing to do because it would be easier to sell !!

You could always sell the chimaera and get a proper TVR again !!!!!

Ever though of becoming a contractor, although I would not usually recommend people giving up carears in the current market, if you are forced into leaving your job you may as well give it a try I'm currently commuting over the Snake Pass everday which is a wonderful way to start the day.

The same thing happened to me about 6 and a half years ago (damn all American companies). I decided to start my own home based business. It was a bit tight for the first two years but I can honestly say that I have not looked back since. Happy to share my "secrets of success" so e-mail me through my profile but be quick as I'm taking my Tuscan S on holiday on Wedneday to southern Spain and won't be back until the end of the month.

life isn't that bad matt, remember you'll still have a job if you want it, and i know there isn't a great amount of time to find a new one locally, but at least you have some time...
chin up matt, as a last resort you could maybe stay in the london area for 4 nights a week, coming home for the weekend.
it's only a bad situation if you don't look for the ways to resolve it.
pep talk over

Firstly Bad luck Matt, but Jeff has the solution.
Since February I have 'commuted' on a weekly basis to Switzerland. It is shit, and really anoying, and I only see the family (I have two kids) every weekend, but you have to go where the work is, even if it is only until you can find something suitable close to home.

I know someone in the London area, who is a very good project manager (I worked for him, as a techie) who has been out of work for about 9 months, so don't leave until you have to/have something else.
