well morg, i recon 15k and i have a full workshop and fabricateing buisness so making and breakiing is no prob,
I realise you can de-cat but i dont want the bother of re-cating for the mot, so what year are cats compulsory, or is this not the way it works.

Just asking as others will want to know to answer.

Biased myself to the Wedge. So, a sorted 400 or SEAC in the Wedge range. Easy to mend and no cats. I cannot vouch for the pre cat Griffs and Chims, never owned them and not knocking them. Sort or stopped at the Wedge as I love them. Big Wedges are, well, grow on you. The sound is sublime and that is without modding zorsts.

ETA, no idea on the cats question.

I've heard somewhere that the cats on an S6 can be removed and the car can still pass an MOT, just have to get the engine running hot enough.....have seen quite a few with blistered paintwork due to the temp being so high the exhaust was glowing bright red to pass the emmisions test.

Not sure on rest of cars, but i know that pre '93 cars dont have cats.

S2C
confused

Anything registered before 1st August 1992 will be subject to a much less strict emissions test. My S3c is decatted and passes so easily its laughable despite running a bit rich and gassing out the MoT test bay.

My understanding is that there is no requirement for a catalytic converter to be fitted, only that the car in question meets the emissions standard required of it. For cars registered after 01/08/92 this is more strict and as such, cats are generally needed to get the car past the scrutineers.

I'm sure there were some cat-equipped S2s. Why I don't know... Who knows the logic of the great Mr Wheeler. smile

I suspect it was just that the 2.9 engines originally came withg cats pre-install or ECUs calibrated to suit or whatever so they left them on. Of course, I could just be wrong full stop, but sure I've heard about a handful of them.

Buy my superb Chimaera 450 and have 4 grand left over to spend on doing whatever you want to it... Great RV8 reliability, breathtaking performance, practical boot size - great all round performer. Fit a sports exhaust for the sound you want and you've got everything!

As I understand it all TVRs registered from 1 January 1993 were fitted with cats.

Hence you can choose from any Wedges, any S-Series (except S3C and S4C), and 4.0/4.3/4.5 Griffs. £15K will get you any of those although 4.5s can command a premium.

No Chimaeras or Cerberas though.

Depends what you are looking for if its an everyday car then an early griff. If its a second car for pure fun on a sunny day get a V8S without question it will make you smile like no other car.
