What made you buy your TVR?
Discussion
I'm just about to buy a TVR, T350,
What made you decide that a TVR was the car for you, and what car did you give up to own one.
I will be p/x'ing my 2005 M3 for this, (Nice & reliable with waranty
)
Car will be used most days for the trip to work & back, long way round on nice days.
so would like to here of other stories.
For me it's the sound and the curves that did it.

Chimaera 400 (Bought in Feb).
Sold a Jap import MR2 Turbo to fund my Dream.
Reason: Brother Had bought a 4.3 Griff 14 months earlier, i wanted a convertable (never had one before but loved the open air feeling of my Brothers), the Noise
, being part of a great community of car lovers, etc etc and finally the Noise....
Any regrets: Not really, love the car and colour scheme on mine.........Just wish i'd held out for a 450/500. Saying that though i would'nt sell to upgrade (have bonded with her), the only thing i'll possibly do is have the engine upgraded!

Simon - I bought my first about 11 years ago. Had an MX5 at the time, but it was always my intention to buy a TVR at some point, when the funds allowed.
The desire followed a ride out in an 'S' when I was a teenager, a friend of my Dad came round and took me for a spin. The sound of the engine, the huge transmission tunnel, low to the ground. Wow what a car, I am going to get one of those.
The funds allowed, and at the time the Chim was the sensible option, if owning a TVR is sensible, still had the sound, that lovely V8 runble, and all the other attributes of the S that I so fondly remembered. Things move on, and now I have a Tamora. Fell in love with the colour, was planning on buying a 2/3 year old model, ended up buying a new one that was in the showroom!

Bought my first TVR, Chim 400, 4 years ago and sold 3 weeks ago. Wanted a TVR ever since I first saw the original Griffs racing at Brands in the 80s. Mates couson had an early Griff 400 and that was me sold!
Only reason I got rid of the Chim is I fancied a change to something quicker and a little more modern looking. Looked at Z4Ms and Boxsters but nothing came close to the special feeling of the TVR so Saturday just gone I picked up my T350T - did 400 miles over the weekend and never skipped a beat. So much easier to drive and surefooted than the Chim, not to mention a 'touch' quicker, I love it.

My Dad had a 3000m that was had a rather breathed on Essex V6 in her (plus around 6 cherrybombs) was a fantastic car! he then sold it and purchased a Griff 500. I very nearly bought the 3000M back when I saw it up for sale however I couldnt get insured. With the release of the Tuscan I was hooked into it all and had to have one (however this was a problem as I was just finishing my GCSE's and so couldnt drive/afford one).
So over the years had a few performance cars and finally parted with a Mkiv twin turbo Supra for my dream car, so far she hasnt let me down still grinning ear to ear.

I was about 19, my friend (PhD engineering) bought a series of Lotus (Elan, Sprint, Europa) and Ginetta (G12). Sadly, I cannot use a hammer let alone a spanner, so I needed a car that was quick enough, good looking, reliable and simple to maintain. Obviously, that was going to be a 1600M (this was about 1975). On my 8th now, same grin but shorter, greyer hair.

That top gear vid with the cerbera against lots of other performance cars
aston martin, nissan sky line, lotus esprit, caterham etc
I didnt realy know much about them realy back then but now i have a tuscan
What i realy remember is clarkson saying "LOOK AT THAT TVR GO"
wanted one for about 3 years ,love the looks the curves the colour, and you dont see them every day ,didnt want a euro box !

My first encounter with TVR was a 450 seac...wow...went out for passenger drive and was hooked.
Then I saw a Griffith and my hearts desire was found, but as I had a selection of company cars to play with I saved my money.
Then I changed franchise and the need for a fast car was back, so I found a Griff in need of some love and restored it (nearly)
What did I sell for my car, my soul of course...........................
Its a bug that gets under the skin, and its a very small and really friendly club..

I had always promised myself a Cerbera when i was rich and famous. Sadly i am neither but at 26ish i felt i was getting old so took the plunge.
There is just something about them, maybe the noise, maybe the shape, perhaps both.
I still grin when i see it and thats after two years. The people at work must think i'm a complete tool walking in each morning smiling.
I laugh like a maniac everytime i get to add a 1 to the "Trips between breakdowns" counter i have on my desk. It's over 50 now
