I went round my local new Makro cash and carry last week and saw own-brand batteries for sale. The biggest ones looked pretty meaty but there was no list of cars to tell you what to buy. However, the big ones were called '069' and they were £39.99, ie half Halfords' price.

Would this be a good replacement for the Griff/Chimp battery?

You can get a 'VARTA' battery with a four year guarantee for £52 (replaced mine last week).

I put a Makro battery in my daily driver a few years ago, and it died just inside the warranty.
My brother bought one too, and that died just outside the warranty.
I replaced it with an Exide Classic which has been perfect.

The Halfwitts battery in my other car never fails, despite being unused and just trickled charged once a month for over a year.
Teh V8 never fails to start, and the car lives outside too which can't help.
