I wouldn't have thought this would be decided until after the new committee are voted in. I'd wait and see - they sound a pretty dynamic bunch, so if there isn't Back Home, there's bound to be something else.

At a recent North West regional meeting, from members who attended an event with Event organisers, where it was a topic of conversation.

From the same person who told Tony Blair he knew where Saddam had hidden his WOMD

If you feel strongly, it might be a good idea to write to the committee and offer to help organise it for this year. I've offered my services to help with organising stuff this year because I was a bit critical of Mania. Felt I had to put my money where my mouth is, sort of thing.

Good for you. According to Sprint mag, we are all bleaters on this website who never offer to help....

I was going to offer my help with the factory tours next year seeing as I have been round there about 30 times now.

Yeah, I saw that. Wasn't very impressed - did you notice who said it? Not good business practice to describe customer complaints as 'bleating on', I'd say - particularly in writing, and copied to those customers....

Smart bloke, obviously

Thanks for the info. I'm sure this topic will come up at the AGM and if so let's see what the new committee have got to say for themselves. BackHome has always been an enjoyable event to attend but it seems to me to fall to the local region to foot most of the efforts when it comes to organising stuff. I think this needs a huge amount of discussion before it is axed.

If it gets knocked on the head by our new comittee it will be sad if the key elements are lost for good.
1. Like having a good P*** Up with people from all over the UK plus the lads and lasses from the factory.
2. A good nosey at whats going on in the factory.
3. The opportunity to lose several inches of rubber --on the autotest that is.

Even if it does come of the Club's events list - that doesn't stop you bunch of enthusiastic backhomers organising something yourselves now does it?

I dont think there is any reason to cancel Back Home. I think this years event was very good and well organised. Jayne did a fabulous job in only her second year. The Devere Hotel has continuosly spiralled downwards over the years, however, and I think it's time the club looked at alternatives in the area. The service and lack of staffing at the bars last year was nothing short of pathetic.

I hope it isn't scrapped....
