Chaps, posting on behalf of a pal up in Aberdeen with a 1998 Chim 450 which he bought a couple of months ago - (he's in the garage with his hack car at the mo) - had a "moment" last night when one side of his rear suspension collapsed! Thankfully it all happened at slow speed so he's fine, though the car is less than happy. He managed to get it off the road and was then picked up by an RAC low loader and taken home.

Anyways, he's currentl havin a new tyre put on his Saab (not having a good week!), and his usual garage have been very honest and declined to work on a TVR. Whether they could manage it or not is moot, I personally think it's the sign of a good garage if they're honest enough to admit they'd rather not! As a result he's stuck with an immovable broken Tiv and is wondering whether to get it trailered back down to Birmingham and have it sorted here, or whether there was either a good Indie in / around Aberdeen, or anyone who could help out in any way? The RAC man felt it was most likely a broken spring, so he'd probably have to replace at least both rear springs, if not the dampers as well?

Thanks for any help in advance, I'm sure he'll be on here as soon as he gets back to a computer.

Not quite sure how close by they are but these people http://www.dreadnoughtgarage.co.uk/ will almost certainly sort him out. It's a family business. I've spoken to them on the phone in the past and found them to be helpful and pleasant. They also, apparently have a great Scottish reputatation.

Hope this helps. Nick.

Cheers Nick, Dreadnought had occurred, but it's 140 miles away - was just trying to see if there was anything a little closer. Otherwise as you say, it has a damned good rep, so may be an option in lieu of anything a little more convenient.

JD Motor Engineers in Insch did work on My cerb recently and were awesome. I knwo they are busy but well worth a visit. Mine will be going back for work.

There is a sticky thread in the Scotland forum which has other recommended garage services but i'd call 01464 821151 and be done with it.

Hmmm, 140 miles is quite a way with a collapsed spring!! But STILL a lot closer than Birmingham!! (Unless of course there's some significance in Birmingham - like it's where he bought it and has some sort of warantee still valid... ?)

Agreed! I think it was more to do with a family friend having a trailer in Brum, plus the car was last serviced and worked on at Horizon Motorsport, so it could all be wound into a trip down south, rather than having to hire a low loader for a loooong trip either to Brum or Dreadnought.
