I know there have been a few threads about tyres, but I need some particular advice. I tried to get two SO2s for the rear of my Chimaera - no luck. Plenty of SO3s though, but checking with Bridgestone, they recommend not having SO3 rears when you have SO2s on the front. My front SO2s are virtually new.

My local motorsport tyre dealer recommends Toyos on the back but cannot comment on their compatibility with Bridgestones. Anyone had experience of this combination?

I contacted Micheldever and they told me SO2 front/SO3 rear is ok, it's the other way round that is not recommended!
Anyway, I now have SO3's on the rear, and, well they take some getting used to. There are lots of threads running on the debate so do a search and have a look round.
In summary though, not a bad tyre I don't think.

Hmmm, I have S03s front and S02s behind.

They don't feel dangerous - but then it's the time of year to avoid caning it so...

There was a long thread about this a few weeks back. Apparently someone had contacted TVR about this problem and were awaiting a reply. Is there anyone from TVR or a TVR dealer who is prepared to make a categorical recommendation regarding tyres ,bearing in mind the number of people who hate the S03's? I am also going to need some rears soon and am extremely dubious about staying with Bridgestone

I've got S03's rear and S02's front, after having S02's all round (can't think how ny rears needed replacing first!!!!).

No problems so far, but in this weather I've been taking it fairly easy!

Has anyone got a positive opinion about non-Bridgestone rubber?

What kind of prices are you paying for a pair of rears?

For information, was quoted £235 for a pair of Toyo T1-S 225/50 ZR 16s.

FWIW, I found that my new SO3s on the front (SO2 rear) felt VERY slippery as if I'd got mega power steering. After a hundred miles or so, the release compound must have worn off, and they grip plenty now.

Don't like the tread pattern, but other than that they're fine.

The Tamora wears some kind of Avon rubberware, I wonder whether they could be shoved onto Chimps, Griffs etc?

Elite stil have SO2's - I got a pair of 255 35 18s for my Cerbera delivered yesterday at £360 a pair. Cheaper than Micheldevers s03s.

Here's my position on this:

1. S02/S03 deliveries have been a bit strange recently and this has forced people to get what ever they can. Makes it difficult to deduce anything from what appears on the new cars.

2. Avon do seem to be the backup choice for TVR. They were used on the Speed Six Cerbie but all the reports I have seen state that this tyre tends to let the car down when pushed (but is better than running on rims...)

3. Several of the track day enthusiasts I know rave about the S03 and rate it highly.

4. The only serious complaint I have seen was from a Griff owner who had 17 inch wheels and this seriously screws up the suspension settings because there is less compliance in the tyre. The s03 is stiffer which made this problem far worse but switching to Toyos which are softer addressed the problem.

This cannot be taken as representitive of standard Griffs/Chimaeras. I do believe the S03 has a stiffer sidewall which is fine for a standard car but can cause increased harshness and tramlining on a 17 or 18 inch wheel that has been aftermarket fitted.

I have heard more good things from other S03 owners than bad.

5. Many have mistaken the bedding in period and final curing where the tyre is far from its best as being exactly like it is.

6. On the sprint circuit where we would swap tyres to gain any advantage, Bridgestones are de riguer. The only other is a Toyo Proxie used on a Lotus Exige becuase they were they only company that made the size. Feedback was they were not bad but not brilliant. The Exige probably made them look better than they were, especially in the wet.

7. There were similar comments when the S02 replaced the S01.

8. Would I go to an S03? Probably, as I would trust it far more than any of the other makes.

Paid £260 (inc VAT) for a pair of S03 245s for my chim 500 from Bracknell Tyre and Battery. No bother so far, seems like there's plenty of grip to me.

Interested to see the references here to Toyos, as I've used 'em very happily in the past. Fancied fitting some to the Chimp, but the supplier I spoke to reckoned there wasn't a "Z" rated front 15" fitment available, SO2s it was...what sizes you guys with Toyos been using?

I have used Goodyear Eagle F1's for the past 3 years (on my 4th set) and they have always been fine, expecialy in the wet! They have a slightly sofler side wall to the S02's which helps prevent bad tramlining. And they look sexy too!
BUT THIS WAS ON MY OLD CAR - A BMW! so i dont know what they are like on a TVR??? I would love to know as i need some new rears as well!!!!

I've got these on my Cerby and the grip under acceleration in the wet is non existant, but they seem to steer and turn in well enough, just uninspiring on the gas, but having said this dunno if SO2/SO3's would be any better???? IMHO of course!

I've been quite impressed with the Toyo Proxes T1-s on my Tuscan.
Since these are now standard on the Tuscan are they also standard on other models now?
