After 5 tvrs in a row and 8 years of great motoring i sold the Sag earlier this year and now have a deposit down for the new GTR.

Im 2 months into a 12 month wait and i know the next 10 months are really going to drag, i have never been so excited about a car period.

Ive recently spent sometime over on the gtr oc forum and one thing that has been quite apparent is the number of tvr owners that have also put a deposit down on this car or are seriously thinking about it ( although any orders now placed would see delivery late 2010 ).
Ive also noticed alot of profiles names which are the same as tvr owners on PH, so i just wondered how many people had taken the plunge or had thought about it.

To think that this thing is 5 secs quicker round the short top gear test track than a Sagaris ( which would have been a really well specced and fettled Sag too ) is absolutely amazing.

Should get a taster of how good this car is early august as nissan have put a track day on at silverstone and nurburgring for those who have ordered

I know you shouldnt wish your life away but roll on 2009

nearly put a deposit down a couple of months ago but held off as I wasnt entirely sure I could afford the full payment without hammering myself financially when it arrived.

I'm still a bit tempted now but I've wanted a TVR for so long and only had mine for 12 months I cant really bear to let it go.

The GTR is an awesome car and I'll probably get one at some point, Maybe I'll think about it seriously again in another 12 months time.

I had a good look at the GTR at the motor show and was well impressed eek They had a full size cutaway car so you could see all the gearbox and 4wd,how do they do it for the money ? When you think what you get in a Sagaris by comparison for similar money.

A truly fat car (as my son says) a mecanical master piece .

How much I like and admire Jap cars (I've owned an MR2 now for 9 years) for their reliablity and performance, I can't fault them and absolutely love the MR2 and will not part with itthumbup. Having said that, it is in no way in the same league as a TVR, and does not have the same charisma, british bulldog spirit, antisocially loud and aggressive presence about itself, and above all the awe of a TVR speaks for itself (It's BRITISH)bounce.

I know I'll getmecoat

I LOVE the Nissan GTR...absolutely fantastic...

Jeremy Clarkson has done two weeks running on it and showed it in Japan against a Shinkansen, the high speed bullet train.

I would love one of these machines and am seriously considering getting myself back to work to pay for it, cos there is no way the Sag goes.....that stays.smile

We will have to have a Shootout next year...

The GTR was extremely impressive on Top Gear & I for one wasn't expecting an amazing time like that, therefore was partially stunned, the handling alone was unreal. Worth the wait for sure. Nick, what colour are you having?

It doesn't seem a bad car for a Datsun, I'll give it a miss for the time being.

If I had such a budget without going into debt, I would always buy British wherever possible. We need the work.

You'd only be chased around by idiots in chavved up Scoobys etc, anyway.

Hi Shaun,

I no longer have access to my previous email, so please forgive me i you tried to contact and i didnt reply.

Shootout would be fun, anyway hows the project gone, i was wanting to contact you to find out but lost your email address. If your cars not in the humber it must mean you broke you target nurburgring time, did it beat the gtrs 7.29?wink

wrt colour, having come from tvrs where you could have almost any colour under the sun, and being given a choice of only 6 you would have thought it would have been easy but no. I ordered white black edition which has the anthracite wheels, but can change up until 4 months before delivery. There should be 6 cars at the silverstone track day nissan are putting on, one of each colour hopefully so that should help me decide.

Also had a baby boy since we last emailed, so that should keep me busy until next year, told the wife the gtr was practical with a boot and two rear seats. Also how are the twins?

You'd be donating over £20k to UK PLC when you buy one anyway! remember they are only £30k in the land of the rising sun, I simply have no idea how they make em for that money!

The difference is in the lifestyle part, the image and feeling that each of the cars gives.

TVR makes you feel special and smile
The Nissan is such a good all round car that it will walk over the TVR round a track - but - will it make you feel the same way a good TVR does.

I miss being with TVR

I have a very well put together car (S2K) but it just doesnt do it, for me, in the proud to own stakes.

The performance of the GTR will not be used by so many of its owners.
The difference of 5 secs round TGs track will not be seen on the roads.

Suppose if you are a track day demon then it will be the car to have, track v road.

Skylines were the beast to have a while back - we didnt ruch out to buy it did we?

When all the fuss is over and the new emperors clothes arrive Im sure we will have forgotten about the GTR
Not so the Sagaris!

All IMO smile

Reminds me of the Clarkson video shootout years ago, where they put several cars through their paces, him someone else and one of the BTCC drivers of the time, I forget which one. They all raved about the Skyline and its performance, but none rated it as a drivers car. It being too homogenized. The same shootout had them score the Pug 106 GTI at the sharp end. I don't remember their winning choice, just the Skyline being a victim of its own technology. Isn't this GTR going to be more of the same?

Given that no one seriously buys a TVR for practicality, therefore why choose a GTR over a TVR if the comparison is based entirely on the same ownership principles that have us want a TVR? Surely there remains not a comparison to be had. I don't see GTR ownership for grown men as anything but but poor taste and a wanting to try something technologically different that will only ever get you nowhere fast. Most if not all who buy new will move on sometime soon. Those moving on from TVR to GTR, they'll have regrets even when they're pedal to the metal in their GTR. Nothing Japanese evokes like a TVR. The GTR I'm guessing will be no exception.

Well, I've just arrived back from the '10 of the best'...think it was called, at Elvington.

What a waste of 20 quid. irked

Zillions of Skylines, Scoobies, Evos, etc.

A few nice pops and bangs, but otherwise clinical and boring, and too quiet !

There were one or two gudduns...a gorgeous proper mini with a humungous several hundred hp motor, which blew away most of the rice burners, and a lovely street sleeper Mk2 Granada with a mega horsepower Chevy LS, which likewise blew most of the Jap tuner stuff into the weeds. hehe

I'll stick to the drag racing, where at least the 6,000 hp boys let you remember you've been there by curdling your brain for the next few days. smile

Each to there own, i understand the feeling people have for tvrs, for 8 years with 5 different cars i loved the sounds and tbh i always prefered my S6s at full chat to the V8, but both were great, to look at they are unique, the T350 is a beautiful car, every time your out people wave take pics etc, interiors are a great place to be on the more modern tvrs too.

Then theres always the other side to the coin, out for a nice drive at the weekend and suddenly wheres that new squeek or rattle come from, number of times i had mates listen in the passenger seat whilst i drove trying to locate the noise. I always felt when pushing on that handling was never upto the performance of the car, unsettled on anything but an even surface, and every tvr i had anything above 120 your concentration was maxed out because the car felt like it was becoming unstable, the Sag was better but still not great, even with full geo set up
To cut a long story short i looked at the cars, listened to the cars and always thought the the total package should be more than the reality of driving them ever was, all seemed floored in some respect or other.

Moving from the chim to the tuscan then to the T350s then the Sag i always hoped this next stage of development would see a really sorted car but that reality never transpired
I really dont wish to offend anyone, because i do still love tvrs this was just my personal journey / feelings. if cash allows i like to buy a nice T350 to go along side the gtr, at least id have one car that looks great and sounds great too.

wrt to all other japanese cars scoobies evos older skylines they just dont do anything for me, infact i think theyre a bit chavy, but this thing really has me very excited, something that can outperform a carrera gt , SLR, zonda round track for 55k is just amazing
