Well as well as being a tiny petrol head I am a techno geak (or so my Mrs says!)

I had been thinking long and hard for a while about wanting something to tell me where speed camera are and also some Sat Nav so I started doing some digging and this is what I now use.

Its basically an IPAQ by HP with a GPS Jacket, its very cost effective and provides you with

1 - Satellite Navigation
2 - Speed Camera Warnings
3 - Location of Points of Interest such as Shell stations.

You can get an IPAQ from £150 to £400ish pounds - www.ebay.co.uk is a great source for nearly new IPAQs at vastly reducded prices.

The next thing you need is a GPS reciever now I like the jacket as its a neat solution thats portable from car to car - great when you go aborad and hire a car!

A review is available here - www.pocketgps.co.uk/emtacsleeve.asp and you cna purchase it for £199 here www.handnav.co.uk/html/product.php?brand=EMTAC&category=GPS&PHPSESSID=aa8ffc7997394e72c0cc624a49fa8abe

Now the next thing you need is some software I use Tom Tom navigator as It gives you a great 3d view and allows Points of Interest such as speed cameras and Shell stations ot be imported. See www.tomtom.com, now this is about £200 or so but is freely available on the interent for th less scrupolous among us!

Finally you need to know about the speed cameras pockgps provides these for us FREE!!! See www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.asp

Then you just need a small configurable program that beeps at you when you are within 20 secs and 10 secs of them - the best is www.pocketgps.co.uk/poiwarner.asp.

you can also download plenty of other Points of Interest such as Shell garages from www.pocketgps.co.uk/tomtompoi.asp

Well thats it in a nutshell - let me know if this was helpful, vaguely interesting or whether I shoudl never darken the forums doorstep again!!
