currently sitting on the m6 hard shoulder!

Called the AA, don't send a van as they won't be able to move it. 40 minutes later van arrives, can't
move this mate have to be a loader.

Imagine my surprise!

Loader arrives, won't get it low enough for that says the happy chap, have to get an extra low loader
out to you be about 90 minutes.

So if anyone happens to be close to m6 southbound junction 9, give me a wave or
pop round with coffee!

Ummm I'm far from an expert on TVR bits. But isn't the reason you cant tow them because theres an oil pump in the gear box or some such that can be damaged if driven by the rear wheels....

Mind you I may very well be talking bks....

Nope, you can tow them just like any other car (assuming you don't leave it in gear or something like that).

The ground clearance makes it difficult to tow using the 'jack up the front wheels' method.

Interesting point! But i have never heard that before on a manual car. Cant find anything negative about towing on this site or in the bible either...

Munter is right for the LT77 gearbox, fitted to half of the RV8 TVRs.

Thats OK then, I have the T5. Didn't know there were so many LT77 gearboxes fitted.

HiJacking this thread a bit, but this is useful info since a search did not throw up anything on towing these cars.

Just found a little info on the LT77 gearbox in a TR. It suggests the oil pump seems to be a secondary source of oil to aid the primary shaft. So towing in neutral would be find for short distances.

That's short as in around your garage if you have ATF in there but this is a big tangent.

hi tallboy,
were you the guy close to junction 9? i went past you in the cerbera. did feel bad for you, said to the missis on the way home we'll have to take him a food and drink parcel if he's still there. hopefully nothing serious with the sag, kinda guessed you'd be waiting a while for the correct recovery vehicle.

I am in fact home but it took a little while longer than i expected.

The second low loader arrived after 30 mintues and not the 90 i was told but it was exactly the same as the first one!

I sat in the cab while he phoned control, explained it again and was told to wait with me. While he was waiting for a call back with an eta, you can see where i'm going now, a third AA low loader turned up!

So at this point i have one AA LL in front and one behind, My Sag was well protected!

Finally sent something that could be used about 9.10.

tur8o, that was me, gave you a wave on the way past.

Slightly off topic, but my S has just been recovered from Dover to home by Britannia Rescue. They were excellent - they met me at the dock so I didn't have to wait around and sent a low loader as this was on my records, and even brought wooden planks just in case! The driver is a keen biker and really liked the S smile

What was the cause of the breakdown ? Do you know yet ? I would make every effort to stop and give moral support if I saw a Tiv looking sick , not that one comes across many being driven let alone on the sick list !

The only fault I`ve had with the Sagaris is the throttle balance screw coming unstuck (meant it ran rich, *very* rich) but when the low-loader arrived it was some effort to get the Sag on.

Luckily the guy who came was recommended by the local TVR servicer and he had wood to help get her on, it was so close to grounding on the back too.

Let us know what the fault was when you get it diagnosed!

I saw you! My mate drove past you first on the way to the Chim Roar in a Silver Griff (wildfire on here). I went past about 20 mins later in a Blue Chim, gave a bit of a rev. The strange thing was though, the traffic was moving pretty slowly right up until I saw you on the hard shoulder on the other side. As soon as I drove past you though, the traffic sped up again like it does after an accident. Therefore I can conclude that you caused a fair amount of slow traffic with rubber-neckers gawping at your car - gotta love Sags. I will have one one day! driving

Tallboy...would be interested to know what your fault was.

Last Summer, when the Sag was due for a service we found ourselves sitting on the very busy carriage way on the road to Stanstead whilst the police cleared an RTA up ahead.
It was fine while we were crawling along...people smiling and thumbs up as we took turns crawling past each other.
But as soon as the traffic stopped everyone got out of their cars and came to have a look at the Sag.

Drivers from 10 cars down the line just abandoned their cars and jogged up to have a nose.

And the more people that gathered aroundd the car, the more came up wanting to know what was causing all the interest.

When the traffic started moving again everyone had to dash back to their vehicles.

So I can well imagine your Sag slowing the traffic right down.......smile

Hope you're sorted and she's back in action.
