I've had a post 95 4l chimp for about a year now, i'm used to the power, and the buzz is dying off.

Other than trading up, what's the simplest (read most effective and safest for the car) way to boost the power. Air filters, for example.

Cheers for the help in advance.

This comes up quite often. Not to put too fine a point on it, I think you may be barking up the wrong tree! If you just want to get back that 'Oh my god it's got more power than grip I'm going to die' feeling you could always stick some crossplies on it. If you really want to improve the car's performance the best ways to do this are to get yourself some advanced training, and then improve the car's suspension and brakes. Unless you're an exceptionally good driver it is unlikely you're exploiting the car's full performance, even if you're used to the power now. I spent several times more on power upgrades than on suspension/brakes yet the suspension upgrades made more difference to lap times. Some significant gains came from relatively inexpensive geometry and rate changes. If you decide to go the power route there are various options open to you, the obvious path is chip/cam/heads+induction. But the costs quickly escalate and it will be quite expensive to get (say) another 30 bhp, and you will soon get used to that and want even more. As somebody who has been going down this route for several years now (starting with a standard 4.0 V8S) I've probably been through quite a few of the upgrades you will be considering and I can confidently say the simplest and cheapest route to more power is to trade up to similar car with a bigger engine. Not possible in a V8S but you don't have that excuse!

By the way the biggest improvement you will ever get will come from driver training, and it is also the most fun part. Money spent here is seldom wasted.

I sold my Chimaera privately last week (Tamora arrives in 3 days!) so it checked over by an Independant Specialist. One of the things he said was that if I'd have had the pre-cat removed it would have boosted performance. He reckoned that the actual cat is up to the job and would ensure an MOT pass and that the pre-cat wasn't really needed. His Independant Garage would have removed the pre-cat for around £60.
Cheers........ Andrew
