I like many other people seem to be in the same boat with roughly the same amount to spend and have turned to TVR as an option.

Roughly 20k.

Was thinking Esprit, M3, Exige, Cerbera, Tusacan and 350.

I currenlty drive an Mr2 turbo, so im not that new to quick cars, although a TVR would be nice step up.
I drive this car everyday. 4 miles to work, 4 miles back. Then out at weekend's etc. So probably about 8k miles a year.

Can they be used everyday? I figured that they would respond fine if i drove it everyday, in my experiance cars left to sit seem to break down more often..... Or is this the opposite in TVR land! smile

How does the Cerbera compare to the other TVR's? Im aware of the engine problems in Tuscans, also that they could be a little skittish. This the same as the Cerbera?

I think you will want to take the long route to work! TVRs don't like to be driven short distances regularly.

I've previously used an S and Chimaera every day for work without any problems..... apart from always wanting to take the long routewink

If I had £20k to spend and such a short journey to work (assuming you have the space) I'd spend £4-5k on a daily car and the balance on the TVR biggrin

Is there anything in particular you're worried about?

I'd drive my S3 every day (15,000 miles a year) if it wasn't for the fact I don't trust its hood to survive in a midday thunderstorm in the work car park!

I'm not a speed six expert admittedly, but as a general rule, cars which are correctly maintained work best with regular running. The old addge of 'blowing the cobwebs out' holds true.

Ive used the cerbera every day since i bought it a few months back and it loves it........as do i cloud9
Just treat them right and they can be reliable as any other car, remember you can pay £12000 for a new Ford and it can be back and forward to the garage!
Mines going for the first service ive had to take it for in June which i know will be expensive and everyone will say im mad, but i knew this before i got it and so expect it, as im sure youll find out if you read up properly before just diving in.
I can thoroughly reccommend a cerb 4.5 for every day use but only because i have one and use it like i do, im sure there are owners of all the other models who use them every day too. Also there will be people on here who have had no end of trouble and those who dont have any wink.
For me though there wasnt really a choice.

Mrs FFG has driven the Griff every day for the last 5 years, had a few issues but nothing any other acr wouldn't have.
Cerb's are about 2x the runiing cost of a Griff/Chim. Speed 6 - no experience of owning, just a Tuscan for 7 weeks , didn't do it for me.

I drive my Tuscan S almost every day in the evenings and do a lot of milage on the weekends. Works just as well as any other 'normal' car that I've had.

Not sure if I'd want to drive it to work every day but that's only because petrol costs a fortune and I'd be getting it serviced all the time. And it's true - you'll definitely be taking the more scenic routes wherever you go!

Not really worried about anything in particular, but you always hear about them being unreliable in general....

But thats what i heard about the MR2, and the Tvr is supposed to be in a different league of unreliablness! smile

The cheap runabout is an option, but i dont like that idea! smile Im not really all that bothered about high fuel costs, afterall its only 4 miles or so! smile

So the Rover engined cars are fine for everyday use... what about the speed 6 ones?

How do the Tuscan and Cerbera and even the 350 compare in general to live with?

Hi there

I bought my tuscan in December at 21700 miles. I work offshore but have used it everyday I am back. It now reads 26900 miles. 5000 miles in 6 1/2 months and I have never looked back. Had it on the track a few weekends ago at the Scottish motorshow.

Since I bought it I have need 2 rear shocks and a top diff bushing. Have just serviced it etc too. In all fairness the shocks leaked due to lack of use as it had only clocked up those miles in 8 years (W reg).

You should consider one but as said they dont like short journeys too much. When I get in it I always try to have a good rag around lick once it is properly warmed.

if you do buy one just go in with your eyes open. Be prepared to pay a little extra on things, in all fainess I had a 2005 model Subaru Impreza STI before and services for them werent any cheaper.

For practicality tho it is actually good. The boot is huge for a sports car. Even with a roof in I can get in three hold alls. And there is plenty of room inside and I am 6' 4.

Cheers

Hey Shibby, I don't know if you remember me but I remember you from mr2oc smile I used to own a rev5 and now a cerb. Owned the cerb for 2 months now, some minor niggles but really enjoying it.

I wouldnt want to drive it to work if its just the 4 miles. Although.. I'd just go for a slightly longer route.

Btw, as I am aware its not the rover engine in the cerbwink

Hey mate! smile

Lol, on the rover engine.. i looked it up after i posted that and realised i made a boo boo. ha!

Im really trying to weigh up the Tuscan Vs Cerbera Vs 350... i heard that the 350 is almost a car you can use everday....

Its looking better along the TVR lines, really like the idea of a Cerbera, but the Tuscan looks sooo good! smile

Go for a V8 cerb I'd say and take a look on the speed six forum before you venture down that road, lets just say the 6 cylinder engine has a chequered history.

Definitely wouldn't bother taking my car only 4 miles. No point. Engine and tyres only just warming up by then. So it would just be a light throttle cruise each way... Agree these cars can be used every day but not for spirited short journeys. IMHO.

My view is that it is better if TIVs are used regularly. Drive mine whenever it isn't raining. Trickle charge when parked up for a few days (longer last summer). Many problems with TIVs come from people who put them in a garage for six months then wonder why they won't start. Even a Honda wouldn't like that.
