Evening chaps

sadly the crankshaft went on my cerbera on the way back to the hotel from the nurburgring (didnt even get to take it on!!)

after many phone calls, it would appear that its not uncommon for this to happen, how it can happen is beyond me though.

replacement of the AJP looks to cost £3000 +VAT for a 19,000 1997 AJP 4.2 engine, plus fitment.

rebuild looks to cost over £6000

so what of installing another engine, such as the Ford 4,6 unit. on speaking to various people a company called Euphoria Racing have raced cerberas and tuscans and also done the conversion for road cars with this carb'd ford 4.6 unit, which comes with 600bhp and also does away with the apparantly crap TVR management system.

anyone know anyone who has had this done, or any thoughts?

surely a cerbera with a more reliable engine, thats proven, and can be serviced more economically, is more pwoerful and faster is a good thing?

thanks for your thoughts

600bhp out of 4.6 litres? How long is that going to last?

Will a Chevy fit?

Carbed NA 4.6 600bhp - isn't that a little ambitious?

i can only quote what iv been told and quoted for. its a rce tuned engine that comes with a warranty. and works out cheaper than a rebuild or a replacement.

How much money do you think you will save by going this route?

I thought the LS6 engine was the way to go in this situation

The chaps who have done Ynak V8 into TVR thing have all ended up spending about 10-12K with them doing a lot of the work themselves.

I applaud them for doing it as the end result is excellent, however if it was me I stick another AJP in but a 4.5, if you are fitting another 4.2 ensure that its a post 98 lump as this is the period form when the cranks were improved

The 4-valve 4.6 produces a little over 300bhp as standard, and 390bhp in supercharged form, so achieving anything near 600bhp is going to be very unlikely (unless it's virtually a full race spec, which would probably be no good for road use).

we get 450 bhp easily at Invicta from the 4.6 unit and 600 from the 5.0ltr version. altho we now have cars running 500 - 600 from the suercharged 4.6

many custom shops in the states use the carb 4.6 and get big power with no issues.

From what I know the LS6 engine was put in a cerb 4.2 two years ago by Brummiewedge. He got the car cheap because the crank had gone on the previous owner. The lump he put in was secound hand and cost, I think somewhere around 7K. You should ask on the Cerb forum for more info.

Chevy LS it has to be or a second hand AJP for originality.

How about this? 390hp for $7500
http://turnkeyenginesupply.com/street_57390.htm

or 450hp for $9100?

They come with all ancillaries including engine ecu and loom. Knock up a manifold and mounts then fit and forget! I'm sure you could source these cheaper if you had a good look around. Alternatively get an older LS1 from a scrapped Camaro and put a new cam in...

^ The first of those links looks to be a truck engine as it's wearing a truck intake manifold. Second engine has ls6 covers on top but in the text they mention Vortec so not sure what intake it would have. Still, good prices though.

Just a random google search for crated LS so not sure about the company but seems like a lot of engine for the money and quite representative of the kind of thing you can get from a lot of places. Makes £6000 for an AJP rebuild seem hard to justify.

Don't forget the freight and 20% ish VAT import duty. It is also a lot more than knock up a manifold and mounts....

diycerb on the Cerbera forum is currently installing a GM Ls2 (?) into his chassis.
He is able to do most of the work himself so would be able to comment authoritatively on the work.

He got the engine (7000 mls), gearbox and ECU/engine loom shipped and transported to the South Coast for around £3500 all in. He has just bought a 'charger from a Holden for around £1500 - - should be good for around 400/450 at wheels?

I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing what he's done so far
