Having just returned from a 1300 mile trip from Essex to Scotland and back, (the Tam was fautless and fantastic by the way!) I managed to kerb a wheel on the pavement right out side my house, as I was pulling to a halt!! GGGrrr

Anyway, been to a shop today, and they are quoting £64 to refurb the whole wheel, send it away, strip back and repaint etc etc. Is that a good deal?

I have the 18' spiders, which has the TVR badge on one of the 'legs', and he said this would obviously be removed as part of the process. Anyone been able to replace this badge?

What about getting just the scrape repaired, anyone any experiences of that? Or is the only real answer is a total strip back and start again?

Any recomendations of places in the south Essex area would be even better!

TIA.

thats good value, do it! localised repairs aren't worth doing, they look terrible after 6 months.

That's cheaper than a certain Essex based TVR dealer who charges around £90+vat however I happen to know the chap who actually does the work for them aand he's both very reasonable and very good having refurbished the wheels on both my previous TVR's.

PM me if you'd like a phone number.

Seems like it might be good price then. Just concerned about loosing the TVR badge, surely someone has put one back on?

Have you used these guys?
Any idea how long it might take to refurb 4 wheels with light kerbing?

I was advised Rochford tyres - but I think they go by another name of late and still haven't got round to getting mine done, so if you do find a gooden let me know !

By the way, the are the Tamora in Garrison ?

Lepsons in Gillingham (north Kent) did a superb job on my BMW wheels, which were just looking tatty rather than damaged.
£55 + VAT each IIRC and I left them there on a Monday and collected on the Friday.

They take they tyres off for you as well (and put them back).

Yep, that would be me!! I will let you know if I use them, but want to get the TVR badge thing sorted first.

Would be very interested to know people's thoughts on welding cracked wheels.

I've got a spoke on one of my RL 17" that has small cracks on either side, which is a worry seeing as the car is used hard. scratchchin

Surely thats a new wheel job? All I am talking about is a graze on the rim courtesy of a kerb.

Is this it?

The wheels on my Griff were refurbed prior to me buying it at a cost of ~£600 for the 4.

That's the conclusion I'd come to.

I have 2 sets of RL 17" plus a couple of spares. So no real problem. just a shame really as I've spent an age getting them stripped and painted. frown

I asked the question as I've often been told that the strongest part of two pieces of steel welded together should be the weld! I wondered if that held true for alloys as well.

Gopher - No its not the centre bit I need, its the TVR 'transfer' that is on one of the spider legs. Thanks anyway.

just worth a mention that if you get only 1 wheel fully refurbed there is every chance the colour/finish wont match the other wheels 100%...even if its only slightly noticeable by you afterwards..it will niggle/annoy you...i only know because it happened to me !
