Who works on their cars
Discussion
I used to but I really cant be bothered anymore - usually. However following the recent TVRCC trackday at Oulton Park I noticed that the exhaust was hanging down on one side. The problem was a broken rubber exhaust hanger on one side of the back box. How difficult can this be? me thinks. I get a new hanger from Halfords for 1.30p good start. But fitting it - Jesus! - for a start the rubber is just too thick, there is not enough clearance to get it in position, solution cut it in half vertically. Secondly the pins on which the rubber mounts point in different directions ie the one on the chassis points towards the left of the car ond the one on exhaust points towards the right, so this makes it a total nightmare to get it mounted on both pins. 2 hours later, many skinned knuckles, lots of shouting choice swear words, and I do it at the limit of my strength. Was it worth it? I really dont know.
