Setting myself up for a stupid response but can someone tell me why charges for one car per hour are more than for another? If the work is more difficult then surely the work just takes longer.

Do they charge more because the car is more expensive and think they can get away with it? Perhaps they just put more effort in per hour on a Cerbie or Tuscan than a Griff etc.

marki, not sure the Tuscans or Cerbies have more cylinders than a Chimaera?

But I have to say
"I DON'T BELIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEE IT!" After having to pay 6 hours labour on my Chimaera only last Wednesday, trouble is, it had to be done, couldn't really wait!

Doesn't Joolz charge something like £120 for a tappet adjustment on a Cerbera? I'm sure he said it doesn't take anything like 4-5 hours... maybe I misheard him?

When I queried this price per hour with Graham at Fernhurst - he said the difference was because the Tuscan & Cerbera both needed a lap top computer and software which was a capital investment of 3 to 4 K,
he did not say it - but I guess there might be additional staff training costs too !

The price difference was their way of re-couping
this. As you probable know the Griff's & Chimaera's
dont have this (only an error code reader).

I dont think Fernhurst are alone in doing this otherwise I guess people would just go else where.

Hope it helps.

Rev.

Thats madness and although I am not a current customer that has pi$$ed me off somewhat, due to my own stupidity though I have to say.

When I was looking for a TVR I really wanted a Cerbera for obvious reasons. When I went to my dealer of choice (mainly because I used to live next door to them) I was told that a 'tappet' service on a Cerb would be £1500!!

On the basis of this they talked me into a Chim, which although I love and its more than enough car for me there is something about the Cerbera that I adore.

Matt.

The in house TVR engines also require certain skills which are needed and can only be found from the factory at Blackpool. Only the more experienced technicians would be fully factory trained and as pointed out below, computer lap tops are needed.

Due to the fact that Official Factory status isn't the case any more this may mean less business, so a need to upkeep this department may be the main reason for this announcement?

I am pleased to say that the now non-Franchised Fernies have left the following on their site:-

Risks of Buying from a Non-Franchised source.

We find a number of our customers question why they should pay "Dealer Prices" when they see similar cars advertised at non-franchised garages at lower figures.
There are lots of pitfalls and lots of questions to ask yourself before parting with your hard-earned cash.

For a start;

Do they have any experience in TVRs ?

Do they have any workshop facilities ?

Can they obtain parts for the vehicle ?

Do they provide official aftermarket warranties ?

Then ask yourself;

Is their car any cheaper ?

Has it been prepared to a main dealer standard ?

Do they have the correct diagnostic tools to prepare and maintain the car ?

What happens if I have a problem, will they, or indeed can they, deal with this ?

Remember;

Only a TVR main dealer can carry out repairs to a car still under manufacturer's warranty.

Only a TVR main dealer has back up from the TVR factory.

A non-franchised dealer will not have the technical experience and tools to prepare and look after your car.

A non-franchised dealer will rarely buy back your car when you want to sell it.

The moral is:- if you want a guaranteed used car which has been fully checked, fully prepared and serviced which will be warranted for the next 12 months - then buy from a TVR Dealer. If you want to take a gamble and save a couple of thousand pounds (possibly) then buy from a non-franchised source (eg Fernies!!! ;->
