Anyone convoying up the A1 on Sun morning? Hooked up with a goodly number last year around Stamford and was a hoot smile

It's about 25 miles more from London using the A1 instead of the the M1. But I'm sure a better drive and worth it. We've been discussing it in another thread http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... and using the A1 hooking up around Stamford isn't a bad idea thumbup (Stamford is about 90 miles north of London)

I'm sure the others may be up for it as the OP, markh1 originally wanted to do it all by B roads!

Lets see who else posts here. There's a slight cloud on the horizon in the form of rain forecast for Derbyshire around the middle of the day on Sunday so people may be watching this along with the fuel supply issues.... although unless it developed quickly into what we saw in 2000, I can't see that being a real problem

Nick.

Im up for doing some of the route via the A1 if other people are. I guess we can discuss it when we meet up.

I am a bit concerned about the fuel issue too. Hopefully there wont be a massive rush on V power

A1 was my plan, for more interesting than M1, a good road once past A1M. Unfortunately I'm now off to Barcelona for the F1!

There's quite a group of us planning to attend from the Cambs area, which logically means the A1 really. I haven't had chance to pull everyone together, but will post here over the next couple of days. We'd all like to meet up with as many as possible!

As it stands at the moment, I think we are 3 Cerbs, 3 Tuscans, 3 Chimaeras, Griff/T350.

Bump!

Same thing seems to have happened again today. confused

But as the weather forecast is looking bleaker by the day I think I may not go now. I'm going away for almost a month on Monday morning, and I just know that unless the forecast heavy rain for the area changes I'll be tramping around in the wet thinking of all the things I should have been doing before going! smile Nick.

Quite agree, Nick. I, too, will probably elect not to go due to weather forecast. Was intending to divert to Chatsworth en route to a Daniel O'Donnell concert in Blackpool (yes, I know, don't even go there - it involves girlfriend, birthday, call of duty etc.). Not sure I can cope with the excitement of a quagmire full of TVRs and an Irish folk singer in one day!! Oh well, at least I can look forward to dropping in for a coffee at my mate Glow Worm's in Preston.

biggrin Probably a sensible decision..... giving a wet Chatsworth a wide berth, that is. NOT the Daniel O'Donnell concert music Hmmmm, girlfriend, birthday, call of duty..?? Must be the 'L' word Phil yikes

Look forward to seeing you second Sunday in June at the usual place! Nick.

Is there a meeting point in some proximity to London?

I am up for going via the A1 instead of the M1 - hopefully a nicer drive.

Sorry to drop out Mark... but IF I were still going my suggestion would be the car park of The Haycock Hotel at Wansford. Wansford is very visible from the A1, being well signed and the first place on the A1 after a longish stretch of A1(M). It's about 80 miles north of London, about 8 miles south of Stamford (the next place along the A1). The Haycock is a big hotel with huge dark green advertising signs and is literally about 75 yards off the A1. Almost impossinble to miss!!

It's about half way, just under 90 miles to Chatsworth House from there, so about 1 hr 20 mins. So 09:30 - 09:45 would seem a sensible time to leave from there.

It's far enough north that the guys coming from Cambridge will have hit the A1 by that point so is convenient for all. Just a suggestion. Nick.

Okay, need to make a decision, so hope this will work for anyone who is hoping to join up on the A1 route.

0915 - Tescos Car Park, St. Neots for
0930 departure.

1000 - Haycock Hotel, Nr. Peterborough (visible from A1) PE8 6JA, pull in, pull out.

In true PH tradition, happy for there to be a list so we don't leave anyone behind or we can just make it a free for all......

Please don't leave me on the list by myself! tongue out
