Thanks to Steve_T and the Surrey TVRCC website, a Fuji Television News Network crew came round for an interview and filming for a Japanese News station.

The news network wanted to get the background on the Tuscan, and what its like to drive (difficult or easy), and they ended up with mine.

Also present with the film crew was Tom O'Donoghue (Ride Drive) being interviewed by them, asking for his opinions on the differences between a Tuscan and a regular car.

After about 20 minutes of filming, Tom departed and they wanted to shoot the car with the Japanese newsman talking about its 'features'.

Steve_T was busy snapping away in the background all the goings on, and we then left the technician and producer behind while I took the newsman out so he could properly experience it. Steve_T took the cameraman riding shotgun.

After giving a 'small demonstration' of the acceleration, braking, and cornering, and following lots of sounds from the newsman, they swapped cars and the cameraman came out with me. Lots of questions later, plus another 'demonstration' on the way back, had them stunned when they got out.

Gave them a copy of Surrey Run 4, and they asked permission to use some of the material provided they credit sleepy-fish.com.

All in all, good fun giving 2 newbies the 'experience'.

Thanks Steve_T (who will no doubt write something up tomorrow)

Good effort, both of you! British cars are already very popular in Japan, and every bit of promotion will expand it.
(Don't know if TVR will sell more cars though; Japan has very strict registration/approval regulations for cars IIRC)

I should get a VHS copy of the rushes, and possibly the news article. The guy's face was such a picture when he got out of the car, nervous excitement. He was completely exhausted after 15 minutes

Yes...it seems this is the story behind it.....although we didn't know much of the detail at the time.

Having read the article, it appears people were injured when a stuntman lost control of the car, while performing a stunt, and that safety procedures would be enhanced in future.

No mention of the car being at fault, and you'd assume the stunt driver was a pretty competent driver.

All the film crew wanted to do was get some background on the car, asking what buttons did what, what I thought of it, did I think it was easy or difficult to drive compared with other cars. The newsman got in the drivers seat, and asked to start it up, and I said he should blip the throttle to gauge it's sensitivity, which surprised him.

Tom from RideDrive was asked what differences could be expected comparing the Tuscan to a normal car, and went on to explain the increased power, coupled with light weight and rear wheel drive.

Both of us were nothing but utterly complimentary about the car, and its attributes, and just kept cautioning on common sense when asked was it difficult to drive - my answer being, that the power available needs to be respected, and it took a little time to get used to the quick steering and the throttle sensitivity, and the sheer stopping power available.

Steve

Just seen the website of the TV company and they've put up a link to the story with a Real Media clip.

I can't see the clip 'til I get home, so if someone is able to view it, would they please let me know what's in it.

Thanks

Clip is of the Japanese Tuscan (chasing a Tamora it seems) during the filming.

Your car isn't a star yet I'm afraid Steve.

Just goes to show what us Tamora owners already knew.
A Tamora can out-run and out-handle a Tuscan

Sorry for not replying to all you seekers of knowledge but I dont believe in spreading rumours which may or may not be true. This is why I suggested NCS as he had much more info than me. It seems all are in the pic now

Looking at the footage it shows a clip of the actual accident. Looks like the guy simply lost control of the car. Back end came round, he tried to correct it, but failed and slid into a parked up car (Nissan Skyline) and then deflected into the crowd.
