I need to buy a TVR Sagaris
Discussion
Ok my first post. Ive been overseas (Australia) for the past 18 months and have been reading these forums over the past few months. I maybe looking to buy a Sagaris. Ive wanted one since the first time I saw one and finally have some $$ in the bank.
I apologise in advance if any of my questions are a common question. Please dont flame me too much.
Ive never had a TVR. People I talk to say 'dont get a TVR they always break down' Are they as unreliable as people make out ? Is the Saggy any improvement ?
With the sale of TVR and the Blackpool debarcle how difficult is it do get parts.
I live in the Brentwood Essex area. Which is the nearest Dealer for cars and parts ? Castle TVR ?
Where is the best place to find a Saggy for sale ? Autotrader ? anywhere else ?
Ive had an Elise tourer, Ive raced many tracks around the UK and i used to race karts but I do not know ANYTHING about mechanics. Do you need a good understanding of mechanics to have a TVR ?
Any recommendations on insurance companies ?
A lot of questions and again apologies if these have been answered. Im really serious about getting one of these and its a lot of $$ to spend.

I see you're in the Essex area, the essex TVRCC have their meet on Sunday, and are always a helpful bunch, and always at least 1-2 sagaris are there, normally more and always a good turn out of every other TVR too. try and pop down, they do a lovely carvery too
Mid-Essex April meet
drop Peter a mail saying you're coming, Reeso he's the RO for mid-essex
Hi dbvw,
Hi...also in the Essex area....welcome to the forum.
Is the Sag reliable...can only speak from personal experience but we have an 05 that's now done 29,000 blisteringly good miles and needs to be reliable because we join in lots of TVR related Club and regional events.
My own experience of Castle TVR has been very good. They looked after our Cerb before our Sag (see profile pic)and we have a very good relationship with them. My advice would be to phone Ian and ask if he has any in stock then it's good to make an appointement so they can give you the time you'll need.
I happen to know they had Sunset Pearl Sag in a couple of weeks ago, but I would imagine that is long gone. It's good to buy locally (not too much running around re service time)and have the car looked after by the same peeps..well..IMO anyway.
Sagari are now holding their prices very well...we have been approached twice to sell ours.
If you are seriously in the market for one it's worth travelling to get one, so have a look at all the TVR dealers like Racing Green etc...I'm sure others will come on and advise their own dealers too.
Check the bonnet catches have been done, the engine mountings and that the windows don't 'flub' at high speed.......
The Mid Essex Meet is a great place to go an meet like minded souls who will be only too happy to chat TVR. Unfortunately we won't be there this month, but if you are there in May you are welcome to come for a blat in ours. Ray sppends a lot of time doing that
Pop over too to the Sagaris forum...loads of good advice on that.
I would advise joining the TVRcc (you can join online) and start to get Sprint, and join us over there on our forums too.....
Hope you find a goodun and look forward to meeting you at a Mid Essex 'do' soon.

Thanks for the replies so far. I am still in Australia and will be back at the end of June. I know the forum will be biased but its all sounding rather positive.
I will definately come along to a meeting before I get one unless my impatience drives me to a quick purchase. I dont mind travelling to pick up the right car.

I mus admit I had all your concerns before purchasing my '05 Sagaris about 8 weeks ago..
However I`ve had 8 weeks of grinning without too much hassle
My old problems have been a broken exhaust mount (it rattles) and the speedo sensor moved (so speed read zero for a few days..) - nothing major and easy to fix...
Apart from that its been a pleasure to drive and own, I`m using it as a daily driver too..
