Just a quick update on information found. As others have commented, it seems that MCD have been selling everything TVR-related (some on eBay). They've also been selling off some Viper bikes.

There was supposed to be a tie-up with Viper Powersports, Inc, creating the Viper-Melling Corporation.

The following SEC form 8-K was filed by Viper Powersports, Inc on 27-Dec-2007 (excerpts below, original can be found here:

Viper Powersports said:
Item l.02. Termination of a Material Definitive Agreement

On December 26, 2007, Viper Powersports Inc. (the “Company” ) terminated its outstanding Stock Purchase Agreement (the “Agreement” ) of August 3, 2007 whereby the Company had intended to acquire 100% of Melling Sportscar, Inc (“Melling” ) through a tax-free stock exchange. Melling has been engaged in designing and developing a sportscar and sportscar engines, but has not realized any revenues to date. The terms of this Agreement provided for the Company to issue 1.5 shares of its common stock for each of the 4,551,334 common shares of Melling.

The Company terminated the Agreement due to the Company being unable to raise the substantial capital funds needed to support sportscar development along with its primary business of developing, producing and marketing premium motorcycles.
At a guess, that just about wraps it up for Melling this time.

it was all pie in the sky dreams, very little money for development, not a hope of ever turning a profit in an already crowded market place and a crappy political climate towards cars.

They were never going to compete with Morgan, Ascari, Noble, Lotus, etc.

Someone, quite sensibly, pulled the plug.

Just out of interest what has melling ever actually done that 1)worked well 2)was popular 3)made money ?

Not having a dig at the man, I really dont know!

Hellcat? looked like it was scribbled on the back of a 12 year olds maths book.

He claims to have worked with/for nearly everyone including all the Japanese companies. Difficult to know if it's true as it's very secretive work.
He's not the most popular guy as he's very much the self publicist and isn't the most diplomatic of people.
He's recently laid off all the people who were working for him on something.
He appears to be personally wealthy so he's made money somewhere.

If we proceed under the assumption that this is linked with the Viper announcement above, that would seem to reinforce the message that the Hellcat has now died.

Well IIRC melling did say the Hellcat would compete at Le Mans this year, and win it the following year.

Would love to see it happen, Im somehow doubtful though. frown

You seem to have a lot of information there. Do Chevron compete with those cars?

Are you predicting 2009/10 for that double based on knowledge, or assuming that Melling will follow the usual low-volume manufacturer practice of perpetually pushing back deadlines?

I'd personally love to see the man succeed. I must confess this is in large part because I'm a mechanical engineer by background, and like the idea of a machined-from-solid V10 taking on everybody else!

I hope that "or" does not need to be replaced by "and."

Hmm. The implication of that which you write is, I think:
  • you do have specific knowledge that the project is continuing, but
  • you also believe AM will follow the well-trodden specialist manufacturer path of ever-pushed-back deadlines.
Are you able to elaborate on the first of those?

The Hellcat is nearly complete and looks less like the publisised version. . .

The lack of publicity to date is to make sure the car is finished before it's known about.

yes

I've heard a rumour that it looks exactly like the Nissan GT-R. apparently, they're going to build it in Japan. And they're going to call the factory "Nissan".

Not yet.....

but with his forthcoming range of aftershave, boats, bikes, beach clothes & finally the "hellcat"..... None of which are currently on sale, I'm starting to get a bit cynical.

The poster above, having already read on this thread, that A Mr Melling has no employees, still thinks that this 500mph car is still going to be built & sold.

FFS.... wake up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JR, one of your links that you posted

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Are you Mellings publicist ?

If he tells you he's making rocket ships to fly to Mars, for less than a tenner, do you believe him ?

I can't quite work out what your connection is with him, but you seem to back up every claim he makes, what's the score ?
