I hear that all 900 Cerbera's have been recalled due to problems with corroding suspensions - is this true ?

Trevor,

My Cerbera is in Blackpool at the moment with an engine rebuild, no mention has been made to me from the guys there.

I have heard of only 1 cerbera with 'wear and tear' on the suspension, I have not heard of any major fault or suspision of fault on the suspension.

I do not know how these roumours get started but suggest contacting TVR to confirm.

Hi Martin,

I read a report in the international edition of the Daily Express this week - but it is only a newspaper !!

Certainly, the dealer in Auckland knew nothing about it.

Trevor.

I think its 1996-1999 only. The recall notes were sent out about 4 months ago and the dealers have been doing them ever since. I've had mine done and all seems well. The work does take about a day though so it means leaving the car unfortunately.

There is a cast alloy upright which can be seen behined the road wheel on full lock. These are apparently too thin and can stress fracture. My motor is in having some remedial work done this week and Hillfoot are pulling the work in at the same time. It apparently takes a few hours and can be done while U wait (dont quote me on the last bit)

Having just checked on the vehicle inspectorate web site (www.autohit.com/maintenance/maintRecall.asp)
the only recall listed for TVR is the one below, nothing for Cerberas.
I think it was a field modification rather than a recall, ie change them during routine servicing.

Robert

Model affected - Griffith and Chimaera Built from 05/95 to 01/96
Possible failure of rear damper The weld on the rear suspension dampers may not be to specification. Should this weld fail the damper piston rod may separate from its top mounting and cause a sudden loss of directional stability. Recall the affected vehicles and if necessary replace the rear dampers with quality assured units.

Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) - SA011533 to TB011196
Recall launch date - August 12, 1996
Build dates - 18 May 1995 to 20 January 1996
Numbers involved - 750

This site can't have all the recalls for TVR as I know of a recent one for Cerberas There are previous posts about this.
