520SE hot lap at Lydden
Discussion
At long last got the in car video installed just in time to record my fastest ever time at Lydden last Saturday.
For those who want to know what it is like from the inside take a look. WMV format and about 4.4 MB
I recommend turning up the volume

PS Next 520 outing is at Goodwood on the 16th August. TVR Speed Championship round.

Glad you enjoyed it. I am still amazed at the amount of work I was doing. The temp inside the car was 46C. Yes it is a lot of fun to drive... Now you see why I think my tweaked Griff is a bit of a diesel...
No TC. Bit of wheel spin with slicks is actually useful to get heat in them so that the tyres get to temp quickly. Switched off now.
Speed down the hill into the left hander was 110 mph.
Goodwood is a sprint so no passengers. Hope to have the in-car running though.

Crikey, a bit of a handful there... The quality is not brilliant, but then again you cant put high quality video on the internet as it would take ages to play... so you dont really get a good impression of speed.... BUT - knowing that your car is pretty aggressively set-up the fact that at every point that you accelerate the front lifts IS impressive.... I would hate to think what it is like to drive...
Mind you, an engine note to die for...

The slicks are too hard for sprinting where I use the stickiest kind I can get but for track days and testing they were fine after a couple of laps to get some heat in them. I used them on the car at the Team Proactive track day but flat spotted through to the canvas breaking for Shaws.
As for the Tuscan Challenge... Nah having too much fun modifying the 520 and seeing how quick I can make it. Planning another 50-60 bhp for next year, a lighter car and some trick suspension. Gotta go quicker you know.
PS you can't see it but everytime I lifted off for the corners, big flames out of the exhaust pipe.

Thanks. It would be great to see you at Goodwood.
The front splitter got removed by some gravel at Longcross and because the suspension has been raised to get a better geometry and settings for the slicks, I haven't put it back. The front rubber air dam is still there though and that is enough to stop the front from lifting at speed. When I get round to making the new suspension bits, I'll drop it down and fit a TVR T440R Le Mans style front splitter again.

It (The Devil's Elbow)is a bit tricky and it has claimed many a car. It looks so innocent as well but the corner tightens. The car is doing around 110 before braking into that corner which doesn't help. The surface is bumpy and I need to carry a lot of speed so that I can keep the engine on cam on the exit. It is very close to the limit but it saves a gear change and means I can hit close to 100 up the hill before braking for the hair pin.

For the complete run including the standing start, the 2.75 laps took 131 seconds. According to my data log the flying laps were around the 44 to 45s. All this on cold tyres with no warm up.
What time did your Tuscan do?
From memory a 44.46 I think - 44 something anyway!! Someone with more skill and who knew the track would have gone a fair bit quicker I would think, if they could find a lap with no traffic. But then the Tuscan is about 900kg with around 420-430 bhp, so not surprising!
Your 44-45 is a quick time, especially with cold tyres!
