Opening this months Sprint I was a little surprised to see an ad for a Morgan dealership. Not a single mention of any TVR connection whatsoever in the ad itself, or on the dealers website. Now maybe at some point in the dim and distant past they may have handled TVR’s, but there’s no evidence that they do now, even for service.

I’m sure that the advertising revenue must be welcome to the TVRCC, but I fail to see how promoting a rival marque fits with the aims of the TVRCC.

Much as I admire Morgan as a company, I'd rather that the apparently valuable space in Sprint was used to promote / advertise those companies which have an obvious interest in selling / servicing / suppling parts for TVR's.

Im pretty sure the dealership in question had a long standing relationship with TVR.

I was a little taken aback too. A TVR magazine is for TVR stuff only, regardless of what history the Morgan dealer has with TVR. If the advert had shown a few used TVR examples it may have been more appropriate.

Its a fairly simple choice really would you like a couple of extra pages of TVR articles in sprint, and a half page morgan ad, from an ex tvr dealer

OR

a couple less pages of stuff about TVR and no 1/2 page morgan ad?

Cant see the problem my self, heck i take so much notice of the ads I didnt even notice...

And how far can we go with 'other brand' adverts before the magazine becomes just another sports car magazine, where's the limit?

Im not unduly worried by a single advert, & as stated, if it helps to pay for a couple of pages of TVR content then all well & good. I suspect Sprint has lost some revenue due to the demise of TVR & many main dealers, but Im not really the right person to answer that question.

But you are perfectly entitled to ask, although I would suggest doing so on the TVRCC website or by contacting the Sprint team directly as Im sure they would be happy to help.

Number 7 could have done this too....but why change the habits of a lifetime?

the dealer in question was a tvr dealer for over 15 years, and still services customer cars from all over its region. they always supported tvr events in their region whilst they were dealers.
also took large customer groups to le mans in the mid/late 90s.
their tvr sales manager and demonstrator driver both owned tvrs .
how many tvr dealers supported diamond rock ?
said morgan dealer was there with two aero 8s on display, and also gave several demo rides.
placing a morgan ad in a tvr magazine is supporting the club ..
how many tvr owners also own morgans ?
you might be suprised !
will there be a morgan at the next tvr bash ?
wait and see....

To be honest I cant see the problem... the ration of adverts to Copy is fixed... so what does it matter if the adverts are for TVR, or Toasters, as long as they are paying the same?

do you read every advert to check its TVRness ?

The articles in Sprint will allways relate to TVR's so I cant see how an advert or two will make sprint " Just another sports car magazine" The ad in question is also from a long term tvr supporter...

Raises an interesting point (done to death in the past I'm sure...) but which brand should those lucky enough to have been in the market for a new TVR head to now Blackpool appears to be on the rocks?

Sorry about the pun.

Ah, but it's the beginning of a slippery slope. Some of those insurance people insure non-TVR cars as well.

If they pay their way, what's the problem? They're supporting the club mag financially, which is of benefit to the members, by paying towards the production costs of the non-revenue generating content that we want to read. Someone else might be interested in their ad, even if you or I are not. Provided the content of the mag is good, that's all I'm interested, like Graham I just tune out of the ads that don't interest me.

Cheers,
Steve.

I think there is a point if there are more potential advertisers than there is space in the magazine, which has been the case in the past. If so then it would make sense to 'select' advertisers based on their relevance. If not, who cares. But as has been said, this debate belongs on the TVRCC site, that's if there is in fact anything to debate.

Precisely, although that does seem to have been missed by others. I can certainly recall instances when TVRCC officials have said that there is a waiting list for advertisers, and that the amount of advertisng is being restricted to maintain some balance in the magazine.

Perhaps my implied point was too subtle. I will clarify: I would really like to see only advertisers in the magazine with an obvious and current TVR connection to their business. In the case of this advertiser, its impossible to tell from either the advert, or from their website. If they really are involved with TVR's, perhaps it would benefit all if they were asked to included reference to their speciality in their adverts as a condition of accepting them? That would generate business for them, and be of service to members.

And I really don't understand why there seem to be objections to discussing this here - its hardly controversial.

I naively thought that products or services with an obvious TVR connection would be of more interest to members. If I want to buy a PC or a pair of boots, I must remember to check Sprint in future.

You are obviously in the know about the dealer and their history. What proportion of other members are equally knowledgeable?

And if its of interest to you, it was Mrs. No. 7 who commented on the ad.

I agree with Mrs No.7 , it almost appears opportunistic for a Morgan dealer to advertise in Sprint. Surely there are enough companies with TVR interests to pay for advertising space. As to whether this should be aired on the TVRCC website or here on PH is totally irrelevant, even our TVRCC Chairman supports both fora. Again "unnamed politically correct" people seem to want to inflicit their opinions upon everyone else.

all the sprint readers who have brought their cars at said dealer , and every owner who has had their car serviced there, would know the obvious link.
the old website was fantastic , including film clips of the road and racing cars, its a shame it has been changed, maybe they should place more emphassis on their heritage with tvr, but times change.
it was a former tvr customer who recommended morgan to go and invite said dealer to become a main agent.
also said dealers salesman lapped rockingham in a cerbera during record attempt .

I doubt if anyone has a problem with it being aired on here, I certainly dont.

I merely suggested posting on the TVRCC forum as many of the committee & office staff are on there more often & the OP would get a quicker answer.

If I had an issue with Sprint I would (& have) contact the editor directly, why does everything have to be turned into such an issue before people are in full posession of the facts?

Why don't you ask her if you're that concerned - she has a profile.

As for myself, I have no skills or experience that could possibly be of use in the role, and am happy to admit so. I prefer not to BS about such things.

A final point:

I chose the name Number 7 for my profile after a motor cycling hero of mine. Your altering this to Number 2 poses a question: is it a reference to the Prisoner. I think not. A childhood memory of yours perhaps? Of course!

I would earnestly request that you refrain from tainting the memory of the man with your toilet recollections.

If you feel the need to insult me, my name is in my profile. I should be grateful if you would use it.
