just like to thank the lincs constab for their diligent approach to the letter of the law.

coming back from boston i was pulled by an un marked 5 series so that i could be told what a naughty boy i was for having a small plate on the front of my cerb

i was told that if i am caught a further 2 more times and the car will be issued a Q plate regiatration!!!

have any of you heard of this before?

listen, i know its illegal but in the grand scheme of things its so insignificant, i cant believe people consider chasing cars and pulling them up for small number plates a job well done

he actually turned around on the A52 and came after me... well done lads

good to see the police have got their priorities in order!

cant wait to pay another £2.5k in tax this month to fund their daily jaunt around the country lanes

grumpy old man or what?!

As i understand it, you get reported more than Once and its goodbye reg'

personally I don't have a plate on front at all when at home in UK.

my home county only has truvelos doing the policing so its worth it,
obviously as and when they realise, and go for Gatso, it becomes a bit pointless.

I think plod was talking bullst, he was correct that an illegal or incorrectly displayed number can result in a fine and potential withdrawing of the number but that doesn't mean you'll get a 'Q' plate.

The size of a plate is not specifies by the DVLA and indeed if you go onto the DVLA website you will find the following information: "All number plates must meet standard size for lettering and style (with the exception of imported cars that were not designed for UK plates and have a functional reason for not using standard size plates). Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if: The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Type Approval AND the vehicle’s construction/design cannot accommodate standard size number plates".

I'm not sure if TVRs have ECWTA and the last bit could possiblty be argued as well that the cars need a smaller plate to allow for correct engine cooling?

I've had my plate looked at several times by the police and they've OK'd it everytime. You must have got a right miserable, jealous git...

The emphasis here is on "AND". Is this smaller plates for ALL vehicles with construction/design issues OR just vehicles not meeting European Community Whole Type Approval? Seems a little ambiguous to me?

How about a stick on plate, correct size or otherwise, on the nose?

With regards to your first comment I quoted that one meaning it's not that clear, also that technically refers to imported cars but I was wondering if TVRs had the ECWTA. I think 'stick-on' plates fail technically because they're on a sloping surface and I think they have to be 'vertical'

Again I think all comes down to the PC in question and as someone else has said here you're attitude if/when stopped.

Thanks for taking the time to look that up in the first place, and your reply. The ECWTA could prove to be an interesting angle, even a loophole, if one were to try arguing such in a court.
