Sorry folks - stupid question, but I've got to take the car for it's MOT this afternoon and I can't remember what documents I'm going to need other than the last MOT. Will the garage want to see my certificate of motor insurance? My insurance company haven't got their act together and I'm still waiting for it!

Only the last MOT certificate is needed (and not even that is essential).

p.s. like the new moniker - getting used to it yet?

Don't think you need any documents for an MOT, the old one makes life a little easier as they can just copy all the details and post date your new MOT if you have time left to run on it

Hi Jeremy
It's taken me two months to get around to it! You have no idea how many people and organisations you have to contact - it's worse than moving house! No doubt i've also condemned myself to a life on the receiving end of mispronunciation!

It's only when getting the tax disk that you need to take other stuff - namely the V5, insurance certificate and MOT if the car is over 3 years old.

Or buying number plates, then you'll be needing your passport, birth certificate, inside leg measurements and a note from your doctor as well

I can understand the proof of ID - it stops fraudsters from cloning your car to avoid congestion charges, speeding tickets etc. But what I didn't like was the change of typeface. It was done to make the plates more easily recogniseable by cameras - and guess what, they never mentioned that...
