Thinking of selling my Impreza type ra for something a little more interesting. Namely either a Chimera or Cerbera. Would love a tuscan but funds will no way allow that lol.

Anyway I've been doing a couple of insurance quotes and the best I've got down to is about the £650 mark full comp. I'm 28 with full ncb and a clean licence. Does that sound like a good price or is there cheaper out there? It's a fair bit more than I'm paying for the Impreza.

With the Impreza I get a discount with Keith Michaels for being an SIDC member. Is there similar with a TVR club?

Cheers,

Matt.

Do a search on Insurance in a previous thread in last couple of months and I think you will be surprised at the low cost of TVR insurance.

When I got my 1st Chimaera I paid about £530 (I was 24, Full NCB, garaged and 6000 miles limit) I'm now 28 and pay just under £500 for my Tuscan for same conditions as above. So sounds pretty steep to me but I guess it depends on location. (I live in a small village in N.Wales)

I'm paying £466 at 40yrs on a Cerbera 4.5, £650 sounds reasonable to me.

£400 for 4.5 Cerb and V8S, does not attract NCB with Hagerty.

Makes a differnec if it's a 2nd car and a mileage limit. Classicline of Hinckley and Aon are good too.

I got my Chim 500 a year ago - 1st proper performace car - 44 yrs old with full ncb, no claims or convictions - some comapnies wouldn't even quote (and they were supposed specialists advertising in Sprint!!) In the end I went with A. Manning, cost me about £350 (sorry I can't remember exactly), limited to 3k miles but fully comp and track day cover. Laid up the car over the winter.

Just renewed for £148 with 5k miles and rebate for 4 months laid up - great service, speak to Ben in their TVR Dept.

650 sounds good to me too, Im paying 750 on a 2000 tuscan, parked on the road, 30 yrs old with 4 years ncb.

If you shop around they can be remarkably cheap to insure when you compare to japanese and german fast cars. Something to do with them not getting stolen often? cant be because of repair costs because they are astronomical!

You dont say what that quote was for? If the Cerb i would say pretty good. If the Chimp i would guess you may be able to find cheaper.

i'm based in essex, not far from southend so prices are generally quite expensive. the quote was from elephant on a 93 chimera. a 98 cerb was coming out at around the £685 mark.

as some have said, would be a second car and i can put a limit on mileage. I don't use the scoob very much at the moment so could probably limit to about 5000 a year.

btw are there any good tvr only sites / forums other than here?

If it's a 2nd car try Hagerty. My Tas only cost £170 last year.

A large element of insurance cost is post code related so comparisons will be difficult

Sounds a damn good quite for the Scoob! I wish I could get mine down a bit, I might be tempted to keep it a bit longer then.

My Scoob (STi v5 type RA Ltd) is considerably more than the £550 my Griff costs. I did get a quite for a Cerb, and it was mid way between the Scoob and Griff prices, so if your £660 was for a Cerb, then it was good.

I'm 29 with full NCB, but my OH did have a claim in my Scoob a couple of years ago, which hasn't really helped things.

I was with Classicline for a few years but packed them in as they insisted that the car was put in the garage whenever it was at home. I asked how it was to get dry after it had been washed and they weren't interested saying if you are home and even going out in it in 10 mins you need to garage it or you aren't covered for theft. Absolutely stupid!! I'm now with Hagerty as its a 2nd car and it can be on the drive all day if I want.
