I was out driving on Sunday and had been using the brakes without issue (and not hard) when, as I was exiting the A1M at about 70ish mph, i stepped on the brakes and got quite significant judder up the steering column. for the rest of the journey home i was on local roads so no chance to put the brakes under load, but there appeared to be no noticeable judder under gentle braking.

I leave the car in the garage monday to Friday with the handbrake off. Occasionally, after washing the car, the pads stick to the discs but a little bit of rocking normally releases them. Dont know whether this is relevant or not.

Any idea what might be causing the problem and how I might rectify it?

Always drive mine for a few hundred yards with foot lightly on the brake to dry them after washing. Stops the discs rusting. Once picked up a Passat that had been standing in a deep puddle for a few weeks, the brake vibration made it undrivable and had to have new discs and pads

I'd look into it straight away as this happened to mine!

See the crack along the centre fins....

Gave a slight vibration on light braking (normal road use) but hard stopping and it was like holding onto a machine gun while pulling the trigger! not that i'd know what that feels like

thanks all. v useful. Off to my garage to have a look at the discs to see if any obvious signs of damage. I am a bit surprised that the wobble came out of the blue. Hey ho.
