It does become a bit of a joke.

Had the Cerbera coming up for 9 months now and had the starter motor replaced thats it.

The Porsche is now on for a year and its been back for an engine problem (low loader job) lots of smoke and sounded like a tractor. Its also had all sorts of seals replaced because of leaks. The Stereo has its moments when it just won't work and the alarm also has its fits aswell and if you leave it for a few days smoke pours out the left exhaust (we need to get that looked at). Got a strange rattle form the windscreen to.

The Audi don't even get me started what a total joke mad

Funny old world.

'You drive that Chimaera don't you?'

'Urmm, err.. yes got one of those...'

'I'm more of a Cerbera man myself.'

'Cool, what year's your Cerb?'

'Oh... I haven't got one.'

'Oh.. what have you got?'

From experience.... And I'm a hardened drinker..... No good has ever come out of conversations in the 5hithouse of a boozer. Even less so, when you're holding your three card.

I also get fed up with the comments such as

'bet that breaks down alot'
'suppose you can't drive it too often as they're so unreliable'
'aren't they blokes cars and not meant to be driven by women'
'you'll get killed in that, they're dangerous to drive you know'

naturally this all comes from non TVR owner/drivers

He's fine thanks chris, he's in sunny pattaya . I'd like to think he's gone there to see the lovely beaches, but I've got my doubts smile

Hope you & the other half are well, and that extremely intelligent youngster smile

If I can talk the missus into it, my next cerbie trip will be Pompeii via Milan , with the car breaking down in Le Mans for a coupe of days on the way there (June obviously)....." Ooooooo listen dearest, I can hear cars racing "

I brought my 450 Chim into work back in October. Started it up in the underground car park (sleeved exhausts) and my boss said it sounded like a power boat at tickover.

Had someone ask me at a petrol station why I had to lift up the boot lid to fill the tank. I would have thought the answer was pretty obvious considering I was actually in the act of filling it up at the time...

Oh - and of course the standard "Bet that costs a fortune to run" comments from people. I always say - "yes, but the £250 a year insurance and near zero depreciation take the sting out of it...."

Neighbour two doors down with Honda S200 (which I rather like) said that she liked my Chimaera but felt she could not afford the repair costs. 18 months later she sold the car and bought a Merc 280 SL, circa 1975. The reason she sold the Honda? Cost of servicing and repairs. She asked how I could afford all the parts for my car and I mentioned that all I had bought for it was new tyres and a distributor cap.

Where to start!
The car has done my personal standing with our neighbours NO GOOD.
When I say this, I means we have had to call the HotFuzz on several occasions including a time when they had to have a riot van turn up to cart off a drunken neighbour wielding a potatoe!
The main complaint being "It's too F'in LOUD", "Why have you got to drive it past our house?", "You think your better than us!" and the best one " You are such an unfit parent to go out and by another 2 seater sports car" whistle Back to watching Sesame St for you my love. The Cerbera has 4 seats!

I have had the laugh "He has to put petrol in his boot"
Have the thumbup and the nods from the Burberry Bragade
"Is it fast?"
"How much did you pay for it?"
"I bet it drinks alot?"

Plenty of time for some more naff comments........

"Yielding a potato"....

Is that some sort of "Cornwall rhyme " for a sex act ?

Or is it just a case of a man holding a vegetable in a threatening manner ?
