I transfered my Sylva to it's new home in a rented lock-up last night and I was surprised to find a pint-sized seven clone only just fits! It's not too bad once inside, but the doorway would be a real problem for even a fairly normal sized car. Does anyone have the exterior dimensions for the S and Wedges?

V8S dimensions (from the original brochure so treat with TVR factory caution hehe)

3958mm long
1665mm wide - its not clear if this includes mirrors, which I doubt somehow.
1223mm high

Unless I am much mistaken from your profile picture I would say your 7 clone is based on a Sierra and most of the kits (not Caterham or Westfield) use the whole rear end so your kit car is actually as wide as a 4 door saloon

It certainly is not. biggrin

No nasty Ford bits in my car (....I don't mean that 'S' owners! wink)

The limiting factor is indeed probably the rear axle, which comes from a Chevette. Sierra IRS is presumably as wide as the drivershafts you have though?

Anyway. Maybe I'm slightly understimating the size of the Leader, but I had an MX5 before and my impression was that the Sylva was substantially smaller. I knew something like an Excel would be a tight fit in the garage, I was shocked to see how marginal my current car was though.

I suppose the answer is people who own 6.5ft wide Lamborghinis can afford something more sophisticated than a rented lock-up!

Apologies (most are!)

As for only offending S owners Griff's, Chimera's et all use Ford brake parts
smile

Interesting data on here www.carfolio.com it reckons a Chevette has a track of 1300mm, a Sierra 1450mm and a Griff 1470mm.

All I can say is my council garage has taken everything from a 5 series BMW, a Westfield, S series and now the Griffith.

You must have got a small one whistlesmile

Well the 400SE is aprox 1670mm or 5' 6" and that from the side of the wheel to wheel to fit on a trailer. so inc mirrors you looking at 6' plus you got to open the doors. or push the car in and out.

It seems that way... to be fair it's not that tight on the Sylva, but I can't immagine a 5 series getting in and you'd be lucky to open the door significantly on a wedge I reckon. The other garage I looked at was marginally bigger I think, but I still don't think something like a Lotus Excel would have fit.

Roof down, window down - climb out? smile

Get one then keep a lookout for a better garage?

If this is in Essex ask Leigh nicely and he might nip over so you can check.

That's the plan exactly. Already got the garage and I'd be a little surprised if there wasn't enough room to get an S or Wedge in and then climb out. Not ideal, but it'll keep it out of the rain.
