Insurers get knocked a lot so I thought I would post a positive message.

I was impressed with the deal that Privilege gave me on the TVR (over £300 less than the "specialist" wink endorsed by the club) so I insured MrsU's eurobox with them as well this year.

Yesterday she hit some black ice followed by a concrete barrier and wrote it off.

I was mindful that some people say that the best price isn't always the best insurance (I've always though that was a bit of a crap argument but anyway..) and the proof of the pudding is in the claiming so I did have slight trepidation in claiming. Anyway I called Privilege and they were very helpful and sympathetic and they immediately arranged to have the car taken to their approved bodyshop where it was inspected today by their engineer who, as I suspected from the moment I saw the wreckage, declared it a total loss.

Guessing that it would be written off I had telephoned the eurobox dealer yesterday and asked him to give me an idea what the car would cost to replace like for like. He gave me a retail (windscreen) price and then gave me another range of figures £1500 -1800 less and said "they will offer you that". I braced myself for a battle. The engineer called me tonight and explained that he had declared the car a total loss, asked me a few more questions and then, after explaining that he had found one similar car for private sale locally for £1200 less, offered me a figure within £200 of the main dealers full retail price. I was so shocked I didn't even try to haggle!

So from accident to incredibly helpful claims handler to inspection to very good offer in 24 hours. Fantastic service, all that I could have asked for.

Well done Privilege Insurance. 10/10. clap

Ditto! I got deliberatly run off the road when I had my T350, causing just short of £20k of damage. Privilege were amazing, one call at the start of the process from me and they did the rest. I didn't hear from them again until a letter came through the post confirming my NCD would not be affected. No quibbles, no queries, they just got on with it.

Has made me stick with Privilege ever since, becasue it's good to know the service is there when you need it.

Good to hear. Maybe one of you could confirm whether or not you have to have a tracker fitted?

The last time I dealt with them, we agreed the insurance, then after a month or so, they wrote to me asking for details of the tracker?? I explained that I didn't have a tracker and didn't want one either and that no one had said anything about it - kind of went wrong from there really! rolleyes

So be interested to know - as they may be worth another go....

Thanks smile

Edited to add: this is still a positive message! wink

I stopped using priviledge because they had a nasty habit of upping the insurance each year. First year very competitive, next year a bit of a hike which I paid, and then the year after that competely taking the mick. (no claims by the way)

When I rang around, I got quotes of nearly half of the priviledge 3rd year quote. When I tried to move my business away from them they matched the quote. I stayed with them one more year, and the same thing happened again, a massive hike. So I switched, even though they again agreed to match the quote.

Now I know every insurance company does this and some has 'special' low starting quotes to attract new customers. But I found the practice rather disingenuious, and not had it happen with the insurer I'm with now.

At the time (2005) Privilege required trackers for cars valued over £40K. Although my brand new T350T was £43k I got it discounted to £40k, I got the dealer to do an invoice for £39,999 and insured it at invoice price thus avoiding the tracker requirement. I wouldn't have wanted my car back after some TWOCer had thrashed it, so I had no qualms in doing this.

I think they have changed their policy since though and now require on category rather than price.

My premium on the TVR actually went down very slightly this year without me asking, which surprised me I must say. I shopped around as I always do and they were easily the most competitive for me. They were also very competitive when we aded my teenage daughter to the eurobox, charging an extra £220 per annum. I think Sheilas wheels quoted me an extra £800!

The question of a tracker never arose. I declared a value of £38k when I took out the policy as I had already had the car for 10 months.

A thumbs up form me for Priviledge.

Both of my TVR's have been with them, along with all of my other cars. No one comes in as cheap, and they have dealt with all my accidents well.

I am sure I could get it cheaper for the TVR, but then I would have to restric tthe mielage I do every year, and that I do not want to do . . .

My only complaint of them, wich I have given to them, is green cards. I am on the continent 3-4 times a year, and I end up pying for every one, which is a little annoying.

I have an 05 Tam, and no traker required. I also found them competitive, even to the point I cancelled a previous limited mileage policy before the 12 months was up, because they wanted to charge the earth to add extra miles mid policy. I did have to pay extra premium for a sports exhaust however. Touching wood, no claims yet, so no experience there.

I'm currently with Direct Line, just because it proved easiest to switch straight over when I sold the Alfa. I thought Privilege were part of Direct Line - is it worth getting Privilege to quote as well? My job for the Christmas break is to shop around for my car and household insurances, hopefully I can get a decent cashback through Quidco as well.

They are the same company, as are Churchill (All RBS), but they do have different 'policies', and generally Priv will insure the more higher risk cars/drivers than DL will. Worth a quote.

Have been with Priviledge several years now, have tried quotes from others but found them more expensive. No experience of claiming though(TW). Each year my renewal has come through about the same price, but the last couple of years I have gone on line to book it and saved about 10%. Still ended up speaking to the call centre though rolleyes to confirm tracker details etc from previous year. But worth doing on line.

I did a quick search online and it seems I can save GBP100-200 with Privilege depending on how much excess I'm happy to accept. And should be able to get GBP60 cashback through Quidco as well. Only thing is their interest rate for paying monthly is over 20%, but I can probably afford to start paying annual instalments.

Got my Tiv insured with Hagerty Insurance at Silverstone - they specialise in TVR's.

I was getting quotes from £400 up to £2000 for insurance, Hagerty came in at £340 with 12 months breakdown cover thrown in. Can't fault them one bit, very quick friendly service and a good price to boot, considering I lost all my 'no claims' when I split with my ex and came off his insurance and my age at the time.

I've heard good things about Hagerty too. I've also used Sunninghill who are excellent. I just found that nobody could touch Priv for my Tuscan. £577 inc business use. Sunninghill were about £100 more. Mannings were over £900!

God where do you live to get prices that low - or do you never drive it and have on some crazy low miles per year policy.

Sunnyhill very good - only one that would touch my car.

I live in a village, the car lives on my drive and it gets used as a regular car would, but I don't use it for work. I was 34 when I bought the tiv and have only one years no cover and speeding conviction wink

Hagerty insure based on the vehicle and where its kept NOT the driver, think I can have up to 5 other drivers on the policy at no extra cost. They also specalize in TVR insurance, hence why the premiums are low.

If I had the use of the garage it would have only been £300.
