Can't quite believe this will last.....

But Peninsula now a main TVR dealer, has fixed priced servicing at about half the average price of that of my three most local TVR dealers.....!!!?????

Only looked at Griff services, but

6,000 miles = £ 295
12,000 miles = £ 345

I've kept a main dealer service history until now (partly due to potential resale, as one owner ssame dealer serviced and supplied, etc). But as I've decided to keep the GRiffith indefinetly, I going to start going to a local specialist...

But, I might now be taking a small trip to Exeter, they also advertise on the website nationwide collection (but at what cost I don't know yet)

I know Main dealer costs vary depending on location/premises/staff etc. But if another main dealer can undercut this much surely all the chim/griff servicing (quite a big chunk of business) will dry up for them...

Any thoughts if these prices will last?

B

Well it used to be very reasonable just the fuel cost plus a bit.

when my water pump blew up on the motorway about 50 miles away, they came out picked me and the car up, lent me a corsa overnight and fitted a new water pump all for about 200 quid... or about the same as recovery would cost from a local garage !!

That's comparable to Offord, one of the better-known independents. Well done Peninsula, it's about time a TVR dealer started offering fair value.

Can certainly add my recomendation . Richard and the guys are currently restoring my 400SE , and when thats done , they will start on the Chimaera . They are never anything less than helpful and committed to looking after their customers . I travel from Cheshire to have my cars looked after .

BTW , not sure if the offer still stands , but when they were independents , they even threw in a nights B&B in Devon .

Excellent crew , thoroughly recommend them .

Can add to this, definitely genuine fellas. I know for a fact the recovery/pick up from your place is just fuel costs. Believe me - genuine TVR enthusiasts in charge of a main dealership - just what we've all been looking for!

I bet those prices will not be 'all in' (probably labour only) but I will give Peninsula a thumbs-up while I'm here. My last service (12k, £640 inc some extra jobs I'd asked for) was one of the few occasions in my life that I've ever taken my car away from a garage feeling pleased with the results and value for money.

Now I feel RIPPED OFF!

Not really. It was a 48k service (a bigger 'biggie' than the usual 12k interval) including air-con service and changing some leaking PAS pipes. I'll be expecting a much lower bill next time though, that's great news.

I knew it wouldn't last

Perhaps peninsula need to junk their old website and change their current add in sprint.

Two different websites on the same add!!! with different prices.

peninsulaauto.co.uk

griff 6k service £295
Griff 12k service £345

but on 'new' website

peninsula-tvr.co.uk

griff 6k service £350
griff 12k service £450

SO Still the cheapest main dealer, but a 15-30% hike in service costs...

Not wishing to blow our own trumpet so to speak, but just for the record our standard costs for Griffith and Chimaera are 6k service £374 exc VAT and 12k service £510 exc VAT. I really can't see how there can be too much variation in these costs as the time taken to carry out these services properly are 6.5 hours and 7 hours respectively. We have a labour rate of £44 per hour and even up here in deepest Northumberland have one of the cheapest hourly rates when compared to all the other local franchised dealers.
It is possible to land a large bill from having your TVR in for work but I am sure that some of the mythology of the £1k service is 'pub talk' of a friend of a friend who knows someone with a TVR. When you actually get to see the bill the car had a service, new front brake discs, exhaust manifold gaskets etc etc.
Of course some of you will now prove me wrong!! Regards, Tony Abrams.

I have been speaking to Richard at Peninsular... and have the car booked in for service later this month (and I live in Kent!). The difference in the prices is that the price on their new website includes full geometry check and engine setup check as well as retorquing all chassis and suspension connections... and includes parts and VAT! It used to be a separate item added to the £295 service.

New Peninsula Site - Servicing

Servicing prices do vary depending on what you have done though and their full Servicing Prices are Listed Here

Still a bit dumb to advertise old website and new webiste in Sprint though. Does that mean the old prices did not include this, can I opt out and just have the service at the old price. Far as i'm concerned my geometry/engine tune is fine (checked quite recently)

Agree, but they've had problems with their new website so old site has been kept running in parallel. Also, I suspect deadlines for ads in Sprint was month or more before it landed on your door stop.

If you want to ask them about tailoring the service I'm sure they'd be happy to speak to you and give you a price... the won't bite your head off!

Go on... give them a call!!! It's still good value either way.

When I go to Peninsula, one of the mechanics comes out and listens to any odd noises I have encountered, looks at any bits I want rectifying and chats to me about technical stuff.

When I go to another south coast main dealer (mentioning no names), I used to get some dizzy bint called Becky who would tell me that the mechanics are all too busy to talk to me. She also knew as much about cars as I know about particle physics (f all). She also failed to return any phone calls, find parts I asked her to order and generally soured my already tainted opinion of the dealership.

The ability to talk to someone who genuinely knows about cars, who cares about looking after them and who's business is dependant on good customer service means that I would quite happily pay 25% more to go to Peninsula (but would rather not).

Ian A.

Edited to add: Although said shonky dealer is currently welding my exhaust bracket and did pick up the car from my house so they're not all bad.

Good Old Peninsula

I have recently had an oil change on my Tuscan Red Rose
carried out by the boys at Peninsula.

What a good job and also what a saving on the cost from using the dealer close to me.

Peninsula changed the Oil & Filter and cleaned the underside of the car to the point it was far cleaner than when it arrived.

All this for £90.00 inc VAT

The local dealer only 9 miles from my house wanted £200.00 for the same job !!!!

I won't mention the name of the dealer but thy are near Blandford in Dorset and the name rymes with "Bestovers"

It was well worth the 70 mile trip to Devon to save the money and also enjoy the drive.

I have now used Peninsula for 2 jobs and on both ocassions they have proved to be the best in terms of Quality & Cost.

Well done Peninsula and keep up the good work

70 quid for two 1 inch welds and someone had been for a drive in the passenger seat (seatbelt loose and jammed in the door).

Bestovers = rip off merchants.
