SUSSEX/SURREY - IMPORTANT - EVENT CANCELLED
Discussion
Damn!!!!!!
I have just been to the shop to get some coffee and it is raining. The roads are wet and greasy and this makes this particular run dangerous due to the type of run it is.
I know a lot of you will be looking out the window thinking this anyway.
People who've done this run before know what I mean when I say it is not worth doing if its not dry - its a long way to go if its just a 'trundle'.
I will be at the meet point at 6:15 to turn people back who didn't read this.
Sorry to do this but it seems the only sensible thing to do in the circumstances.
Hope I carry you all with me on this.
Cheers
Del: I'll ring you at 6:45

Thank god I made the executive decision to not leave my house when I saw the weather!
There's me thinking I would have been the only pussy to not brave the weather!!
Its a shame the rain arrived early but heh ho!
Ian, thanks for arranging it all....just add a different date nov/dec and I will be there with Craigy.

WHAT A FANTASTIC RUN!!!
Thanks so much to the hardy (fearless/daft) ones that made me so welcome.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Full English and especially the company.
Looking forward to the next run - and don't care if it's raining as I seem to have found an advantage in only having 'Half" an engine stuck in the middle of the car!
Let's hope I can still keep up in the dry....
Also pleased that my AA card stayed in my wallet!
Once again thanks guys.
Cheers

WIMPS!

Well the 6 brave souls that carried on regardless had a great, if sometime slightly hair raising run.
We all made it in one piece to the brekkie destination, and Raj & I have just got home.
Good to see Bodders, Craig, Keith, Harry and Rob - hope you all got home safe!

oh bloody hell, I wish I had known! I'd have come anyway! I ended up driving about 200 miles today anyway!

who can't park for a photo shoot
Great run even if it was trying to keep up with Bodders....mild mannered R.O...then put him behind the wheel of a Griff

More frightening was my Harry's comment 'Just think only 3 years and 2 months and I can drive yours like that'
or 'why can't we have two TVR's?' ....................Thanks Liz & Raj
Thanks to all for brightening up a dull day

P.S Rob, the team won 4 nil away and number two son was named man of the match...got 2 minutes away and the final whistle blew

Parking? I thought no-one would be daft enough to stand out in the rain to take a photograph!!
Thanks everyone for the run this morning, we had a great time. My run would have been better if I could have got some old codger in a red griff out of the way!!
Ian - thanks for organising it. I think you took the right decision, it was wet and slippery and wouldn't have been fair on you if someone had had an off. As it was, those that went made their own decisions and didn't feel like they had to go.
The run was fantastic - I see what you mean about a spirited drive!! The breakfast was excellent, although trying to explain to the waitress that the other 23 "won't be making it - you'd better turn the grill down", was interesting.
Keith - well done to your other son - sounds like a good result. Don't worry about Harry not being long from driving: let him have a go, he'd probably be better at keeping up!!!

Good to meet you all this morning - I hope we can get the chance to do it again soon. I can't believe I'm saying that, bearing in mind I had to get up at 5:30!!
Thanks again everyone
Rob

My first post after years of lurking
Thankyou to Ian for letting me join in this event.
It was great to lead the intrepid 6 on the run this morning on one of my favourite roads. Did we have fun...suffice to say we where at our destination in 1 1/4hr
Mind you I had to keep asking Rob whether he had left his handbrake on!
Dereck: sorry to hear of your hedge hugging incident but I did my best to upheld the Griff honour by running rings round those Cerbs
There is also an Aston driver with a slightly deflated ego around the Winchester area

Hi All
Well, what can I say. I'm so sorry the weather was such that I couldn't with good conscience do other than call it off.
As the one leading the run I have an obligation to both the people attending the run, their property (cars), and of course the public who might get caught up in any unfortunate incident.
It was this and this alone that led me to the only decision I felt I could make in the circumstances.
The run is 'very quick' when done in the dry and I was concerned especially for those that hadn't done it before. Thoughts of them perhaps pushing their cars a bit more than might be safe in order to keep up in the rain/greasy roads haunted me that morning and after taking a couple of soundings from people decided it was the only thing I could do.
I am especially sorry to those that came from afar.
Unfortunately this is always a potential problem with organising these blatts at this time of year. Rain sweeps in an hour or two before the event and you desperately scrabble about trying to turn back those who are coming from out-of-county in particular but without mobile telephone numbers there's not much can be done.
Perhaps theres a lesson here somewhere.
The good news is I still have a shed load of maps left over for another run!
I'm glad that some of you decided to go anyway and at least make something of the crap morning weather - and that you all got there and home safely. And there's nought wrong with breakfast on your own early Sunday morning on Brighton sea front - if your not bothered about what others might say
As was said - the company is (always) good.
So, its hopefully gonna be 3rd time lucky for me (for those that don't know my 1st run as leader was a washout due to my car going 'funny' just before the run and I ended up a passenger on my own run) - this was my 2nd attempt.
As Jason says, the 'blown-one' is rapidly turning into the 'blown-it one' but hopefully it's 3rd time lucky and I can lead everyone out sometime in the spring.
Again, I'm very sorry and look forward to meeting y'all in the new year.
