I need some advice on issues with my chim, and I want to phone a specialist tomorrow to get some help - who's the best to phone?

Are you expecting to buy something or pay them for their time? Otherwise you're asking them to spend their valuable time on you for nothing, and giving their expertise away to boot. I don't think you'll find many professionals happy with that idea.

I'm happy for them to fix the problem if they know what it is. :-) so yes.

Perfect, thanks mate.

I should have been more specific in the original post. I'm not out for freebies or anything, its just that I want to know the garage can fix it before I give them the car. Its one of those problems that some people say is normal and some people say they've tried lots of things to fix it. Last time I gave a garage a car with a problem like it they had it for months.

Cheers!

Yep. Everything is tip top on the car, yet it still does it. Its violent, creates a knock at the rear, and the wife refuses to drive the car because of it.

Need it sorted, or the car is going.

When I had my old Chim, I used David Batty (The Garage) - 01483 811995 - for all my servicing. He was always pretty good at diagnosing things over the phone, plus, being an independent, MUCH cheaper than a main dealer.

Ever considered just putting it on your local garage's engine analyser. Its only a Rover engine. Nothing clever. An engine analyser will tell you any basic faults without wasting your time buying bits you may "think" need replacing. Have you bought it new plug leads yet? Perhaps treat it to a new distibutor cap and some plugs. Remember if its a 1993/4 Chimaera the leads and cap could be 13 years old. sTeVeR 40 years TVR experience

All good advice. I will do plugs, leads, rotor arm and cap shortly, it was serviced (12k) in may, but I cant remember if any of the above was changed.

I'll ask my local garage to see if they can plug it in - ta!
