Guilty as charged !. It was actually my mate who was taking it up the strip at the time with me in the grandstand filming it - Brown trouser moments for both of us then !.
It was a very strange incident as he had just dropped into second and the back end just went completely. Apparently, some of the bikers were having traction problems on the same section. We were told that they shut the strip down temporarily to clean / dry it or whatever it was they needed to do.
It was our first time on a drag strip and I couldn't believe how difficult it was to launch the car. Our best 60FT time was 2.22s which I know is shite but we were either spinning the wheels or setting off like driving Miss Daisy !.
I have Goodyear Eagle F1's on the car and although we didn't mess around with tyre pressures (kept them at 25 psi) I don't know if it would have made much difference - I'm led to believe it probably would have. What I do know is that I thought (naively perhaps) I would have more grip on the Santa Pod surface than I normally have on tarmac - completely wrong.
Our best time was a 12.9s, with terminal speeds always around 112-113mph even with the poor launches we were getting, so the car should have been much quicker.
The conditions on Saturday struck me as being pretty poor to post good times, but not being a regular "Podder" I have no way of really knowing - just gut feeling - any thoughts on conditions from the Pod regulars ?.
