More Peter Humphries V8S sprinting movies can now be found online...! All new movies are triple bandwidth for better quality video (although file sizes are consequently higher I'm afraid).

The movies can be found in the new look Index at www.roop.ik.com -> Index -> PH Movies

Be sure to also check out the John Kent Motorsports Pages for more TVR stuff too - this section will grow over the next few months to include video footage and lots of racing car photos. Racing TVR's include 3000M, 3000 Turbo, 3000S, 280i, 350i, 390i, 420SEAC, S Cosworth, Tuscan (1989-1995) and Speed Twelve (non-cerbera variant). Others will include Lotus Europa, Elan, Leyland T45 Roadtrain and the Shadow DN9-2B Grand Prix car...!

Be sure to leave a message in the guestbook. I don't know what to do next unless I get some feedback...!!!

Hee, okay - I have some of it on 8mm. It's all a bit home video special, but I'll see what I can dig out. Only trouble is that my 8mm cam is broken, so will have to find someone to borrow one off to do the captures. Watch this space.

Glad you enjoyed it! That was the first time I used the new camera and now you can actually hear what was going on. Unfortunately I'd also cured the oversteer problems so there was a lot less arm-twirling and tyre squeal going on, the thing had huge traction out of the corners! In fact that was one of the least exciting runs up Loton I've ever done, but it was also the fastest by about a second, enough to take the class record back from that Viper and put it back in the hands of a TVR where it belongs!

Various minor tweaks planned over the winter. Mainly softening the springs and changing the antiroll bars, plus minor aerodynamic mods to cut down the rear end lift. Nothing major, it'll be campaigning more or less in its current form.

Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

I don't do proper racing, I compete in sprint and hillclimb competitions in my V8S along with thirty or so other club members. The hill/sprint format is basically one car at a time against the clock, a bit like race qualifying without the wheel-to-wheel action of the actual race. Hence in the videos you'll rarely see another car, and when I have an 'off' it's my own fault! Very diferent from proper racing and I'm extremely envious of the Tasmin racers and others who are doing the real thing, but hill/sprint competitions are about as far as you can realistically take a normal, roadgoing TVR without getting into silly money.

I compete in several regional championships including the Midlands Speed Championship and the ACSMC Guildford Tyres Speed Championship, and of course I do as many rounds of the TVRCC Speed Championship as I can. This takes us to various race circuits and hillclimb/sprint venues across the country from Goodwood and Lydden (south coast) up to Harewood (Oop North).

Off the top of my head I think the V6 would be in the high sixties/low seventies at Loton. Sorry no Llandow footage, the scrutineer was a bit funny over the camera mount and I didn't try to press the point. (But every other scrut who's seen it has been quite happy with it. In fact I seem to remember the same guy OKed it a couple of months later at Loton.) From the in-car perspective Pembrey was pretty similar, and it's also not far down the road from Llandow - will that do instead?

Increasingly tempted to give this a bash myself. Better go have a rummage down the back of the sofa...

Just checked www.hdlcc.com and at the last event in September David James in a 3000M got 71 ish and Barrie Cooper in an S2 got 74 ish. In October Barrie got 71 ish. Sounds like they're pretty evenly matched!

that was me in the 3000m, it was my first time there (one spin!), i was wondering how far i was lagging behind your six cylinder men?? its a shame about llandow, the power sliding was superb!! i have similar trouble with the scrut`s with my sunroof (its ok for a soft top to be down without a rollcage, but i cannot remove my glass sunroof with a rollcage????).

Peter,

Excellent movies, had the father-in-law down for Sunday lunch this weekend and showed him some of the Goodwood sprint and Lydden climb clips. Brought a twinkle to his eye, he’s a sprightly 75 now, he used to do a very similar thing in his younger days after the war up until to the mid 60's mainly in MG's, race prepared TC and TD's! finishing up with works MGA lightweight twin cams amongst some exotic Elvas and early Lotus drives for CC. He could relate to the arm twirling as you fought the back end over the crest near the top of Lydden! Excellent stuff have to make a point of seeing you 'live' next year.
Keep it up, I might even see if he wants to come to one!

The hair stands up on the back of my neck every time I see that second practice - looking back I must have been mad doing 80 mph sideways in the rain with armco a couple of feet away, but at the time it seemed quite reasonable! Must be even more exciting when you're in a pack, when I grow up I want to be a racing driver!

Wow, that's a pretty respectable time in its own right but particularly good for your first trip there - it takes a lot of commitment to really attack that hill because there's so little run-off. That's my excuse for driving like a wuss anyway!

Yeah go figure!

PS can I have some volunteers to sit in the garage making brmmm brmm noises in time with the videos to provide a sound track?!!! If you have a passenger to make the tyre squeal effects for the corners too that would be even better ...

All you need is 2 condenser microphones and a mixer into the camera - one inside & one out! And to make sure that picky scrutineer isn't attending...

Follow the original link to www.roop.ik.com -> Index. There you will find the JK pages, video from some wally in a V8S and some excellent 'kung fu' type fight animation, amongst other things.

Cheers - nice piccies.

I'm not broadband though, and the pictures could do with a bit of compression (Most of them seem to be about 1/4 Mb which is a tad OTT). I would be happy to tell you how to get better compression if you email me.
